I've been talking to WA Police about procedure / paperwork for bringing a rifle into WA for a hunting trip. One of the requirements is for them to test the rifle (which i guess is to fire a round through the rifle and then keep the fired cartridge case for their records).

Just wanted to know from anyone here if they had had the testing done and if the rifle came back ok without any damage done to it, and if there were any hassles?

WA Police been watching too much CSI

After speaking to my mate, I won't be taking a rifle with me this time.

I knew that I needed a letter from a property owner...what i didn't realise is that the calibre / cartridge of the rifle to be used is restricted by the size of the hunting property.

Plus I wasn't very keen on leaving my $3,500 rile with the cops there, god knows what condition it would come back in.

Are there any small properties in WA? Just borrow a rifle there.

Kiwi, They don't want to fire your rifle..All they do is make sure that the safety works, and the trigger is over 1kg ( about 2 pounds let off) and there are no splits in the stock..Customs do it when you arrive..You do need a Form B709, and a place to shoot (Property letter or invitation to shoot a "competition" from a S.S.A.A. club..E-mail me if you want more information Cheers Dhufish

I thought customs only did their safety test on permanent imports not temporary imports for hunting or competition.
