Goose hunting with a view
Just trying the new image hosting site suggested on AR with some pictures from the weekends goose shoot with Top Predator.

Couldn't think of many more picturesque places to spend a sunday hunting.

Nice mate. I'd love to have a crack at these buggers.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Hi Shanks,
Good job getting the pics posted. You guys picked the right spot to get into those geese.
I forgot to mention earlier but Mike from Canada sent his regards. He and a pal was over here in late June.
Are you cultivating a mature, bearded appearance now ? I don't remember the whiskers from last time.
Cheers

I shot canadas in 2012 - day after my wedding (wife will never let me forget it) - in NZ.

Great shooting. The sound of these big buggers honking coming on daylight............and the subsequent shooting.......will remain a very fond memory.

Will have to do it again.

Too bad here in MD, used to be "the" goose shooting capitol, but for last 20 years only one or two a day. So no reason to go out, as so expensive. when I say one or two, talking about the Canadas.

Yep Naki, Kawhia. Those birds are very clever and their roost is always within eyesight of where they feed. The farmer who's land we were shooting on has 500 geese every day on his grass, and dosen't even try to grow crops.
This was a trial event at an organised hunt where 35 odd groups of hunters spread out around the harbour on farms and a boat tried to push them off the water at high tide.
When the boat reached our point, 1000 geese took off from within 500 meters of us.
The trial didnt really work. Two main reasons. The weather was just too fine and calm, and we needed way more boats to keep them moving.

Bakes You get about a kg of breast meat of each bird. We tend to make it into salami, sausage and pastrami. Have tried them roasted and not my favourite.

Great pictures, Craig. I hear the geese are not thought much good to eat, even in Canada. They seem a bit of a pest over there, crapping on the footpaths in all the parks.

Several thousand around here in TOWN.

Big soccer complex half mile W of me
that's covered with Canada's in winter.
Most stay in town on the smaller lakes
not many get out and about where the
hunters are Iv'e been told.

Mostly cure them into pastrami, but also cut them fine and stiryfry asian style is quite nice.
There nearly half a KG on each breast, so a lot of meat.
