TrackersNZRe: An Aussie & A Kiwi Go Huntin'
Superb rifle Tony, knocks the balls off a grasshopper at 500 yards, just point in the general direction and the Tahr come out with their hooves up..L.O.L...
Drops em like nothing else.
Have been pulling off some long shots (270 -340 yards)from pretty ordinary rests and usually 50-70 degrees uphill.
Mind you those arrows do quite an impressive job, 600 grains flying at 240 fps versus 140 grains flying at 3,300 fps.
Didn't get a picture of the larger Bull I shot as we were pressured for time, in some steep terrain and darkness upon us, and a long way from camp.
Camp is on the little peninsula jutting out in the Glacial River bend, you can see the place in the Bow Photo. Camp was at 1,100 metres, we were shooting at animals around 1,500-1,800 metres, so a bit of climbing involved.)
As it turned out the Aussie retrieved the animal, (Those aussies have their uses

.) as he was nearer at the time, and caped it on the spot.
In the meanwhile I was trying to retreive his Bull from a deep crevasse, unfortunately unsucessfully, as I didn't want to suffer the same fate. (Disappear into crevasse.)
The aussie was understandibly a little pissed, being his first ever Bull Tahr, still he dropped two more and they were bigger.
The capes were in superb condition, nice and blonde and body still dark chesnut. No hair breakage or moulting. This is quite late (Oct) and probably due to the late and wintery conditions, still a lot of snow about.
We saw a nice big Buck Chamois in the same vicinity, but despite some sprinting in soft snow, he gave me the slip.
Thanks for putting the photos on.

NB: Please no quips about kiwis wearing shorts in the snow

muzzaTim - what picture host do you use ? that might have some bearing - failing that you must have made some error in uploading the story and pics at the start .
Took me a while to figure it , pain in the arse when it goes wrong tho....

TrackersNZThe good old days when 40 views was a hot topic. And people actually wrote about their hunts...hmmmmm!!!!

muzzaI think the problem now is that as soon as you post a hunt story , the armchair experts dissect it word by word and then conduct character assassination on the writer - which basically means that no-one posts anymore cos it isnt worth the agro.
Personally - I find the pic posting process a pain in the rear end , and a story without out pics is a bit like a blind man looking at Penthouse magazine .....
