Re: 50cal gun laws in NT & SA
The 50BMG is legal in Vic and if you want one Pro-cal have one for sale or did have 3 weeks ago for $15000AUD. I didn't enquire on the make as I was not interested at that price.

He may shorten the round but would prefer to leave it standard.

No buff do not need to be shot at 50 BMG distances, but my friend is into long range hunting or harvesting if you don't think it's hunting. His longest shot to date was in QLD on a pig at a measured 820yds with a 30-378 Weatherby which I did not witness but I have witnessed him shoot a bush chook at 425yds while it was walking.

Bakes do you have any idea on the NT laws? or a web site with the laws on it?

I do not believe it is prohibted in SA. I recently bought a press for the .50 BMG but use it for my .450 No.2 NE as it didn't fit in any other press.

Use the site map to find the firearms branch.

When hunting buff last week the outfitter and guide said they usually get within 50 or so yards for the shot.

Just shorten the chamber 2mm and call it a ".49 Buff"
So long as it won't chamber a .50BMG.
A few years ago someone was making singleshot rifles in .375/50.Would have been a powder burner.

The same was done with .303's years ago in NSW because civilians couldn't own military calibers. One turn was cut off the threads of the barrel and screwed back into the action. It was given a metric name,7.7x52?? or something.
I'm told they still turn up secondhand sometimes.

Thanks Nitro
Had a look at the site but couldn't find anything relavent - found the firearms part.

The hunt will be without a guide, he just prefers to take long shots if they present themselves. He was/is a bowhunter so he has done the getting close thing on goats pigs and deer

NT Police firearms page here

NT Legislation is available here , under 'Firearms'

Have a look on the SSAA SA webpage for links to SA regs etc.
