404WJJeffery7.62X39 for My son's hunt in NZ?
He shoots it well, looks like it is good enough, in 120 grainbullets, for goats, fallow and ......stag?
What do you guys think?

Kiwi VinceLots of us here use 7.62 x 39 on goats, pigs, fallow. It will be ok on Red deer as long as close and an accurate and deliberate shot is taken.
Just my opinion, others will think nothing less than a .375 magnum is enough.
7.62 x 39 with good bullets isnt that much different to .30-30 which is often called a Deer Rifle...
What firearm are you using for 7.62 x 39? Would be best if it is a bolt or single shot rather than a semi as in NZ some military style semis are restricted.

TOP_PREDATORKiwi Vince as covered topic very well.
I have shot a heap of goats with SKS,7.62X39 is a great goat caliber, you will have no problem getting factory 7.62X39 here if you plan to shoot a heap of goats.

muzzaIf its a bolt action or single shot it will be adequate.
If its a semi-auto you might have trouble getting it into the country through NZ Customs and the Police.
If it isnt a bolt-gun or single-shot leave it home and borrow your guides rifle here for the boy.

404WJJefferyThanks for the information
It's a CZ.....great, we'll bring it
I, on the other hand, was going to bring a 7mm-08, but I just got a 6.5x68 barrel for my Blaser R93- this is a screamin cartridge....zeroed 3 inches high at 100 yards it only drops to 3 inches at 324 yards...tempting..but hard to find ammo for it in NZ I think.

Kiwi VinceI doubt that you will be firing that many shots, just bring the ammo with you.
Which airport are you coming in at? There are some good gunshops over here and you might be surprised what is available.
You probably wont have a lot of time to shop so better to bring it with you.
The other problem you will have is getting your guns back home at the US end.
I suggest you look into it and you may decide to use the guides guns.

TOP_PREDATOR404JJeffery bring the 7mm08,if you do find a gunshop that stocks 6.5X68 they will only have one bullet weight and limited stock of a odd caliber like that.
120 barnesX is a flat shooting bullet for 7mm08 and will kill animals you are hunting and all gunshops will stock 7mm08 if you plan to shoot a heap for goats

P.S take lots of photos.
