"No speed bumps and islands in suburb streets."

My pet bloody hate, try it with a 4 ton truck.Gives you the shits.
Met a brick truck driver while waiting to unload one day.He just drives straight through them and flattens all the signs with the trailer's triaxle. LOL

Great thread btw.

Through the 80's that is. It was a blood bath before the goverment saved us from ourselves.
Remember the horrors....

I remember in QLD at least we didn't have to wear Bike Helmets.

No Bike lights (well no one cared anyway)

Could double or triple on any bike(or if not did so anyway)

No seatbelts.

Could ride in the back of a ute standing up.

No speed bumps and islands in suburb streets.

Could drive at 60 in the suburbs.

Could cram as many people into a car as you wanted.

Could drive any car you wanted as long as could go.

Play your stereo as loud as you wanted.

And do burn-outs

Bloody Guns everywhere.

Smoking everywhere.

Crossbows without a licence

Fishing Powerheads without a licence.

Could take whatever safety gear on our fishing boats(or none) we wanted.

Could swim at risky swimming holes regardless of warnings.

No MSDS in the workplace(safet data sheets)

No Oh&S policy.

No equity and diversity lectures.

No lengthy written warnings on ladders.

Or trampolines

Or any other 'deadly' household objects.

And we only put a fence around our pool if we fucking felt like it.

Get as drunk as wanted-well 5c drink deals certainly got us pretty drunk anyway.

Punched dickheads in nite clubs

Caned dickheads at school.

Kicked dickhead kids up the arse for being nuisance in the neighbourhood.

Spear tackled dickheads on the rugby field.

Or punched them out too.

Guys how did we make it through the 80's alive without all these rules to safely limit risky behaviour?

And considering how much faster these laws are coming in than they were then just think how much safer we will be in another 15 years or so!

Karl.
