Blaser rifle,am i going mad???
Hello Nitro,

I have a Blaser Offroad in 7 by 64 Brenneke, i bought mine new almost 5 years ago, it was purchased tp hunt Deer, pigs and goats,

So far i have fired approx 900 rounds, with no problems, they key to its use is to full length size all cases during reloading, if the cases are only neck sized they can be hard to chamber, the rifle cannot fire unless the bolt is completelly closed.
When i first bought it i was a bit worried about the mag capacity of 3 rounds, esp when shooting pigs, all i do if i am about to shoot i will chamber a round thus having 4 in the rifle, the blaser is fast to reload, light in weight and since buying mine i have sold my other Sako rifles, as i now prefer the Blaser to all others. i guess you just have use one to become a believer, cheers Dave

Thanks Sapper.

900 rounds is giving it the start of a pretty fair work out.

Actually 3 rounds isn't bad. I forgot, as a mate has an older model Blaser and it only has a 2 round magazine.

Thanks for the comments, anyone else?

I'm afraid to try a hunting model Blaser. If I really like it I will have to sell off all my other rifles. Then what will I do when I'm not out hunting or fishing? At least now I can work on rifles.

I do have a Blaser LRS2 sniper rifle in .308 with a suppressor. Deadly accurate, quiet and comfortable. Very fast to reload. It is way too over-engineered to be a military rifle, but with diligent care and cleaning would certainly work as a hunting rifle. They do break down into a very small package for travel.

The safety caution is that you have to make sure your ammunition doesn't exceed SAAMI or CIP specifications. If there is an, "overpressure event" the bolt is free to fly back into your skull. So. Keep the barrel clear of obstructions and either use factory ammunition, or be diligent about keeping the pressure of your handloads to the cautious side of moderate.

I own and use a 30-06 wood lux R93 and have put something like 300 rnds through it in 4 months with no problems. When closing the bolt you close it firmly as you would a turnbolt, if you fanny about with it and give it a little nudge of course it won't close properly.

I've used it on deer and driven boar with no issues on the magazine capacity and as Sapper does I fill the mag and one in the tube.

As with all rifles I own I use them until they become second nature, they are after all a tool not an ornament.

I baffled the guys I shot with when I removed it from its case fitted it together and it was still on zero, it went against everything they were ever taught which I think is another hurdle people struggle to climb with the Blaser.

That was it for me, coupled with the *!*! response from the blazer agents in respect to an explanation.
There fore I base my oppinion on that experience and would never OWN a Blazer. There are better rifles out there that do the same job, a couple of them are mentioned above.

I know who you are talking about, he has told me the story and I agree with you. The NZ agents were fools for treating someone so well known & respected in NZ like that. I will never buy one and when I tell the story to others thinking of buying one they change their minds too.

I'm curious, no-one has made any comment about the Merkel KR1 that I suggested. Are these rifles simply unknown to the general shooting public or is there some prejudice against them that I am not aware of?

BwanaBob himself with a "Mannlicher" stocked Merkel KR1 multi-calibre and barrel rifle.

Better looking in reality than I thought. NO (!) not BOB the rifle!

For a German rifle it sure needs some more German calibres in its line up - hint hint Bob. Wink

Duggaboy-

Were all these rifles at the Australia show? Wow

I have never seen anything close to this type of display in the US, not at SCI, unless I missed it

Thanks a lot John!

And I tell you, I am having a very hard time NOT buying that Mannlicher stocked KR1 - I am in love with it!

And to cap it all off, the R93 is now available as a .22lr. There goes the last reason I had not to replace my old Timber Offroad.

Cheers, Dave.

They even made a double barreled R93 for a Arab customer ''one off'' yes a straight pull double rifle !!!!!!! available on Special order only !! i would like a single barrel R93 but I am dubious about their safety ,then i would only need one rifle and several barrels !!! a bolt in the head could be very flinch causing umm problem
