Just returned from a holiday in Hawaii and got the opportunity to drive the new Nissan Titan SUV. What an awesome vehicle!!

Its the same size as a F250 or Dodge Ram and comes in a variety of configurations but at this stage only one engine - a really lovely 5.6 litre V8 which churns out 305 HP and 379 lb-ft of torque. Goes like the clappers - the quarter mile in 15.2 secs I believe and it sure feels like it. Also sounds like a real V8!

Its available in a dual cab config and 4x4 which is what I drove. Makes the locally made Toyota 100 series V8 which I have driven feel really lame, but then thats outperformed by the current Patrol six.

The Titan is made in Minnesota I think it was and Nissan appears to have done their homework. The U.S. writeups that I saw are very positive with remarks like "the Titan sets a new benchmark for this type of vehicle."

As yet there is no diesel option but the Nissan agent seemed to think it was only a matter of time.

Now if only we could get them here in right hand drive!!!

By the time it gets imported here it would cost $70000 and then look forward to putting fuel in it @85 cents a litre.

This morning on the way to work it was 99.9c a litre for standard unleaded; 104.9 for diesel; 105.9 for premium unleaded.

Mate tells me in the it's about 105 � 110 c a litre for unleaded in the near country � or 125 c a litre in the far north.

Now, what sort of mileage does that thing get??????

I doubt it will EVER come to Aussie. The dealers and the gov'mint would kill it -- or it will come with a 2.5 L common-rail diesel instead.

Australia sucks for decent cars.

I think the Nissan patrol is one of the best 4X4 along with the Toyota landcruiser. A pick up with the patrol frame and engine alternatives would be nice



There are some pretty impressive US made pick up trucks with diesel engines avilable. A V8 /V 10 diesel would have enough torq for most bush driveing

I agree - I doubt we will ever see it here because it is made exclusively for the U.S. market ie only in left hand drive.

The price varies from about 30 000 USD for a 2 wheel drive to 40 000 USD (recommended retail) for a 4x4 with all the bells and whistles and believe me the top model has EVERYTHING.

Factory quoted fuel economy is 14 - 18 MPG which would hurt here buts its pretty much line ball with a vehicle this size.

Cost of fuel in Hawaii was about $2-25 per gallon (USD) and that apparently is more expensive than on the US mainland!!

Some very clever thinking has gone into this truck eg, the side mirrors are extendable - pull them outwards and they extend if you are towing a wide caravan or similar. Also on the tray is a railsystem around the top with a rachet like system with 4 tiedowns which can be moved around anywhere to tie down your load. Very ingenious.

Just looking at the brochure here it is rated to tow 4310kgs!!

I have seen them advertised in American shooting magazines. They would put most of our Japanese rice burners to shame, there's nothing like V8 grunt.
