Waitoi Creek
Been talking to Nathan Simmons at Waitoi Creek about a red stag hunt next May. Anyone have any info or experience with them? 10,000 acres outside of Queenstown. I’m aware that it’s high fenced. Any info good or bad is appreciated.
Thanks

Never heard of him, I’d be surprised if the fenced area is 10,000 acres.

Their website shows this to be a fairly new operation. Their map indicates a location near Ranfurley which is mainly irrigated fairly flat country. Over 2 hours drive to Queenstown which Kiwis would not describe as "close". Could be that their home farm is not where the hunting block is or the map is wrong. Owner is John Falconer. There were lots of sheep farming Falconers in Otago when I farmed there. A respected family.
Many similar operations so I would ask a lot of questions before committing to one.

Thanks for the responses. Also considering applying for block hunts and going that route. Definitely more affordable and certainly more of a hunt.

What kind of animal are you after Southwesthunter?

If its one off the park monsters, they dont really exist in the wild, But a free range hunt on private land with a decent outfitter will likely get you a respectable true head with much more actual hunting. And likely cost a whole heap less as well.

Thanks Shankspony. Was really just looking for a solid stag hunt. Wife had a major change at work last week which is great but the funds to make that hunt won’t be available for a bit now. Looks like the NZ trip will wait a while. Fortunately plenty of hunting close to home to stay busy with anyway. I’d certainly be interested in a private land hunt like you mentioned. Any recommendations of guide for that? I’m comfortable with hunting myself if the draw blocks are worth it. I’d like a solid stag but it doesn’t have to be a high fence stag from huge genetics.
