bookstores in Melbourne
I've been here almost a year, and I've yet to see a bookstore with more than 3 books on shooting and hunting. Are there any specialty bookstores covering these topics? I haven't browsed through all of Hyland's in the city, but I doubt they'll have much on sport shooting. How about some well stocked gunshop around town? Thanks.

Dymocks is the biggest book retailer in Queensland but try to find a book on guns!!!

Four farking walls of books on poofters & lezo's but not one gun book. I know which pursuit will bloody well kill you first!!!

I guess Melbourne & Sydney are the same bawling

I went into the local book store in Katherine, ask them to find some Corbett books for me. They found 3! All you have to do is ask Wink

I second the nomination for Peter. Order by phone witrh a card and I have always got the books within five working days.

The book list from Bunduki is quite satisfying, and his place is within driving distance. Thank you.

As for libraries, even the State Library has pretty slim pickings, but I have spent an afternoon there browsing some of the older books. I even had a chance to look through Grant's Single Shot Rifles again.

When I first went to Africa I was living in the UK and went to the local library to research, the Kensington and Chelsea Library. I found a lot of very interesting books on Africa and India, including all of Corbett which I had not read before. Not Africa but damned fine reading. Read exploration accounts by Speke, Burton, Livinstone, Stanley, as well as some hunting books and modern accounts. Never tried in Australia since returning but have thought of trying.

I agree the local bookstores are very poor though Borders does stock the "Double Gun Journal" magazine at A$35!!! It too has a whole isle devoted to deviant behaviour, and in fact once had little signs on EVERY book shelf pointing everyone to the poof and lesbo aisle.

The best way to get books is to use the internet. Safari Press, Trophy Room Books, Amazon etc. Oxford University Press also has some interesting books but incredibly poor and erratic service.

Bunduki Press looks interesting.

All these replies and not one Kiwi got here asking, "Why would you need a bookstore in Aussie?"
