Retail cost of Rem 40-XB
Could someone tell me the retail cost of Remington 40-XB, wood stock, 2 ounce trigger or 1.5 to 3 lbs., single shot? Thanks John

Try getting a quote from Rem's custom shop. Let us know!

I'm with "WAY TOO MUCH". Try close to two-grand.

I have no dog in the fight and am not a Rem hater (I just bought a new Stainless 5R yesterday and have 4 in my safe) but my dealer has sent 2 40x's back in the last year for shoddy workmanship/lack of finishing. He says he can't believe that they shipped them. One was even a full custom job w/ an exibition stock. I also saw a Custom shop ABG in .416 Rem at Cabelas in Dundee MI and the stock fit/finish was VERY unacceptable for a $4000 rifle. Inletting was not good at all. The stock comb was also so high the sights were useless. I don't care who you are the sights could not be used. My dealer has not been impressed w/ the custom shop stuff and from what I have seen I might steer clear for a little while. Maybe find a used 40X and spend the money saved on an aftermarket barrel. I was thinking of doing this recently as you can pick up used ones at a considerable savings over new.

You would no doubt be better off trying a custom gun built around the new Savage target action. Fred Moreo at Sharp Shooter Supply does excellent work at a fair price. I have a lot of his products installed on various guns and a ground up HVBR rifle from SSS.
