B-1 Bomber Demo- WOW
Sent: Fri, Dec 16, 2016 9:22 pm
Subject: B-1 Film by a friend

"Matt" is a friend who flies the B-1. Here is a short and one of the most impressive films I have seen, made by he and another B-1 driver.

He just completed a special 6 month B-1 school of some sort.

I told him he has to get me a jump seat ride. He laughed and said they don't let anyone, not even the air force dudes, do jump seat in the B-1 anymore.
He said the reason was, on one flight they had two jump seaters and had an engine blow, then on fire so before they hit the ground the crew ejected. But forgot, the jump-seats do not eject, and these poor dudes sat there and rode it out to the ground.
Ruined their whole day. So== no more jump seat riders.

I told him I would sign a leave the chute behind, hold harmless, just to get the ride.

Gear up, Jack

Sure seems to be a capable bird that we don't hear a lot about.

Looks like a great airplane, if you could actually watch the video. I'd like to kick the idiot who did the stutter editing.

Agree, I had to stop watching in the second minute.

Some great clips but yup edited by a meth addict with brand new software toy. Less is more.

The formation shots gave me visions of what a Thunderbirds flight demo would be like with those birds! That would be one loud afternoon. Oh, I forgot to mention quite expensive too.

During the time I was active USAF (1983-2007), B-1 reliability was a running joke. So was C-5 reliability. It probably wasn't as bad as our jokes, but I don't know if they ever solved all the issues with either bird.

There is a B1-B crash site on a ranch I hunt in far West Texas.....they do training missions down the canyon. One planted into the caprock in I think 2004. Huge debris field all on board where killed.

We see them come screaming down the canyon quite a bit.

Awesome birds!

I am very familiar with that accident.... The guy mistook a mach buffet for a stall buffet and pushed down into terrain on a high speed low level.

There is a huge debris field down the screen slope from the cap rock. I have a few pieces on my desk that I have picked up while hunting.

The ranch owners placed a memorial there at the base of the cliff.

A couple flew over us while we were hunting in Montana.

Wouldn't want them mad at you.
