The Lanc was arguably the most successful of the 4 engined bombers of WW2. Find the Book on the Dam Busters by Paul Brickhill. They carried the Tallboy a 12,000lb bomb designed to penetrate 12 to 20 feet of reinforced concrete of the U Boat pens and the Grand Slam a 10 Ton=22440lg bomb designed to penetrate 160 feet into the ground before going off. Destroyed the V3 with this. Some used them as dive bombers on rare occasions.

The De Haviland Mosquito was also powered by Merlins, a twin engined aircraft that had, bomber, fighter bomber, fighter, recon and antishipping variants.
