Used Jet Engines

Joel/AKRight now we have 2 turbines, I guess they are the same from a DC-10 APU. anyways my boss and I are trying to figure out how to "play" with them.
They are out of some old airstarts that wont get used anymore and no-one will take them.
My boss has an old chevelle that hes restoring and I'm trying to convince him but......

Just curious but what turbines do you have? I would guess probably something like the Garrett GTP 70? As I see it you have two choices, either using the 'pump' for propulsion or using it to drive the vehicle via power transfer. As these engines only have something on the order of 100# of thrust this makes the power transfer via gearbox the best probable option.
Now, having said this, I would go back and read everyting I could lay hands on re Andy Granatelli and his Indy turbine car. IIRC, these things drove all four wheels through a gearbox and used a ~550 SHP turbine.
Keep us posted up on the results as this project develops - I wish I were near enough to observe and get my hands greasy with you.

Joel/AKTrapper, Not sure on the actual model. I'm a GSE guy and go figure, we have to take care of the airstarts. whenever I need a part I just go over to the director of maintenance, he looks it up and gets the parts for us.
One of the turbines I wouldnt use, its for parts. the vibration level is through the roof.
Told the general manager about the levels and they bought 2 new rhinemetal 200's. so these are just sitting there. we cant even give them away.
we've discussed making a chassis, get one of the A&P's to help us and just make something for the local strip for fun.
