I've got no dog in this hunt...just something I ran across. Good luck with your search!

I have a Ruger no. 3 in 45-70 that has the chamber opened up to 458 WM. The former owner used to shoot both 45-70 and 458 WM cartridges in this gun. Its for sale if interested.

Odds of finding a 45-70 ruger no1 in that condition for less money are low. Nice gun.

Kid,
You indicate either a #1 or a #3 as alternatives. Having had both in 45-70 I would suggest you focus on a #1. Maybe I'm not very tough, but the #3 approached "very unpleasant" to shoot.

Glad you got one; now as you know, you will need to keep your loads down. In the #1 you can load the 45-70 as hot as you want; the first one I had was in 1976 (bi Centennial model). I loaded it so hot that the forearm was impossible to hang on to. Killed a hog with it in Tennessee, in 1976.
