Dumb question: Were these originally made without iron sights?

I never saw one without sights and remember the 600 had the vent rib too, which made them look cool.

Yes the original 600 had a 18.5 barrel with iron sights and the plastic rib. The 660 was a later model with the 20" barrel and no iron sights. This was followed by the 600 Mohawk which was a non catalog model with a birch stock and iron sights. All great guns but before their time.

The Model 600 was manufactured from 1964 to 1968 and had a shorter 18.5" barrel with a plastic shotgun-style rib with a shark fin front blade. The plastic rib was prone to warping and cracking (the same as the trigger guards), so it's rare to find one in good condition today.

The Model 660 was manufactured from 1968 to 1971 (this is a 1969, SN 6225966) and came with a longer 20" barrel with traditional iron front and rear sights. This one didn't have them when I bought it, and the mounting holes have screw plugs in them.

Only the 6.5mm and .350 Rem Mag models came with the laminated stock, and there were 5,204 "660 Magnums" made. I sold my matching 1969 6.5mm Rem Mag to a friend who always wanted one.

The Model 600 Mohawk was manufactured from 1971 to 1980 and went back to an 18.5" barrel but with no rib.

The Model 673 Guide Gun was manufactured from 2003 to 2004 and brought back the rib on a longer 22" barrel and added additional chamberings, including the .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Mag.

Those were great little rifles. You don't see them much anymore.
