Looking for a used reasonably priced 22 bolt rifle . My nephew just turned 13 and I would like to get him his first 22 bolt rifle

You’re probably better off going to a local shop unless someone on the forum is close to you, considering shipping and transfer at your dealer would bring the cost to quite a bit more money.

The above advice is solid, try to buy local.

Yea , thanks guys
I kinda figured that, but you never know what might come along …

I went to a local shop yesterday to buy a nice older Marlin , but when I got there the guy apologized because it was a 22 mag …..:-(

Have you visited Doc's Gun Shop on Rt.32 in Saugerties? I never knew they were there until about a year ago. Also a motorcycle shop.

Hi Greg
Thanks for the info about “Docs”
I didn’t know they were a gun shop either..

Hi Rich
That guy your thinking of was Robins Brothers,
No they have been gone for some time now

I ended up ordering a new Rossi bolt action 22
You could get the gun brand new for around $200 , and they have good reviews

I also found a last minute deal on gun broker .i bid on a Romanian 22 LR bolt action training rifle , nice condition, i won the bid for $173 plus shipping and tax ..

Now I got 2-22’s coming , gotta figure out which one to give the kid

Thanks for your help guys
Bob

Let me know how you like the Rossi. Seem to be well made on the outside. Never put one through the paces though.

It turns out , when the rossi came in and I went to pick it up , it came in a youth version length of pull stock .@ 12” .
This kid is 13 now and probably 5ft 6 inches tall , he needs a 13 1/2 or 14 inch length of pull..

I passed on the Rossi, and found some older used rifles that would fit him . I bought an older Winchester 67A 22LR , and a Winchester 121 22LR single shot ..one of which Santa will deliver Christmas Day

These are nice condition, and being classic Winchester rifles will hold their value

Thanks CB , I didn’t think about that ……
He’s getting the Winchester 121 to start out with , then if it all works out , he may graduate to one of my Ruger 10/22’s..

I've always felt that a bolt or single shot 22 is the best for youngsters first gun. A semi-auto has the possibility of being "always loaded", if you know what I mean. I'm sure you'll have one very happy young man on Christmas morning! I know that some folks might find it strange, but I've always given my boys guns as gifts for Christmas + birthdays.
