ErikTRe: Red stag hunt in Masuria / Poland
Frans, Martin,
thanks a lot

Frans - you are right - a cow would be more affordable and a much better trophy than a bronze medal bull - but I think I still have other priorities to further fill up my wall (moose, some African game,...

)
Best regards & good hunting
Erik

konst#1Hey Eric,
weidmansheil to both of you, although IMHO both stags are definetly no "real" selection stags!
But hope you had a great hunt.
BTW, how old is your stag (judged by the teeth) and what is the weight of the trophy?
Would guess he isnt older than 7 years and trophy weight is arround 6,5KG max, although the weight is hard to judge on a photo because it depends on the "bone density" of the "local breed".
Weidmannsheil,
Konstantin

Frans DiepstratenHi Erik,
Weidmannsheil! Well done. My cousin and uncle hunted the Masuren once, for bison and boar, and they enjoyed their stay very much. I've hunted South-East and South Poland (inthe mountains) several times, and got two nice (but not whopper) stags, a bunch of roe deer and a few immature boar. I like the picture of the stag in the trees, such a different scenery from where I live now. Sure brings back memories.
I'll go have a read of your story on the W&H forum.
About the wisent (european bison)...if you are interested in the species but do not want to fork out the big cash for a gold bull, think about a cow...my uncle shot a cow of about 23 years old, and it is a very impressive trophy, with big curled horns...I would imagine a much nicer wall mount than a bronze medal bull, for example. And at a fraction of the cost.
