I have not gone mad and do not need a Sat phone for the next Waldjagd or roe buck hunt, but thinking of mountain backpacking plus some remote mountain hunting in 2018.

Has anyone had any experience renting sat phones in Europe ( esp Germany ) and if so please let me know? Company, good, bad etc

In Austria you probably won't need one. You won't be far from cellphone connection.

I use a Thuraya Satsleeve Hotspot. It connects with your smartphone. If you set your phone up for it, you can go online and use apps like whatsapp or viber to send messages and check emails. It doesn't cost much and you'll be available in Westafrica, Europe and Asia.
