AR Driven Boar Hunt?
Hi fellas
I went boar hunting last year and enjoyed it so much I am returning in January (Croatia), hopefully it'll be as much fun as last time.

I was wondering if there would be enough interest to get a group of AR guns together for a trip next season? Say a three day trip in November? Ideally we'd get about 15 people down, with a couple more on the waiting list for cancellations.

This trip would be as competitively priced as possible, without being a poor quality hunt.

Just wanting to gauge if there is enough interest to put more time this idea.

Depending on dates, price and location, I might well be interested. Hey, hunting driven pigs is always a blast! At least put me on the "interested" list, for now Smiler

Cool Mike, of course I am not expecting people to give a firm commitment but I want to make sure there is enough interest before calling/negotiating lots of agents.

If anyone has suggestions they are welcome.

I"ve always wanted to try driven boar so I'm interested.

In fact, I'm very interested.

Can you PM me with some idea of what I should expect to budget once I'm actually in whatever country where the hunting will take place.

If I may make a suggestion, I'd prefer a hunt where we would see plenty of boar and would not be charged by the size of the individual trophies.

Put me down!

I even have a special orange safety jacket for occasions such as this!

November sounds good!

Here I am, count me as Amir I have red jacket, more than one, bolt action and semi auto rifle. Possibly we should choose where is possible to hunt also with the snow, not too far enough to be unreachable by car, but with a good intenational airport etc etc.

I'm on the case guys, hope I can revert with a plan that will suit as many of us as possible.

Though I had originally envisaged a three day hunt, DB Bill has suggested this be extended to 5 days. This may make attendance harder for some - I'm open to comments on this.

I can fully appreciate that people coming from far away (the US would qualify!) would prefer a longer hunt. That is what I look for when I travel far and wide. Sadly, the 5 day schedule would be tough to pack into an already filled schedule for me.

A possible compromise might be: some places offer a couple of extra days of hunting (say, from a high seat or whatever) in connection with the driven hunt. That is often a sensible way of extending a short hunt. Plus you get to experience two hunting methods for the wary Sus Scrofa...

I would agree with Mike. Five days shooting is effectively a seven day trip away for most of us.

I could not commit to that - being self employed with three small children - it is just too long away from home.

My trips tend to be Thursday - Monday type affairs, travel on a Thursday, shoot Friday, Saturday & Sunday, travel home Sunday night or Monday.

I have to agree with Mike and Brian. 5 days away would be nice, but sadly impossible.

If Bill would like to stay for longer i'm sure Boggy will do his best to help but I know that his time is at a premium at the moment (He was at work at 9 pm last night when I called him!!) so I will volunteer to help with any organisational duties in this regard.

Let me know if I can do anything.

Amir

The main reason I suggested more than 3 days was I always seem to lose a day or so on any far off hunting trip due a variety of reasons

bad weather --- equipment break-down -- someone got sick --- everyone got sick --- airlines lost the luggage ---- whatever. The benefit of a little longer hunt seems to smooth out most problems.

Bottom line --- if it's 3-days instead of 5 that's still O.K. with me -- as long as there's a lot of piggies trying to run past me. dancing

Good stuff.

I'm making enquiries and should come back with a couple options for people to choose from, early in the new year.

Either way it should be great fun!

A 3(hunt)+2(travel) is quietly common also in Italy and, luckily I'm near enough to travel by car. A 5+2 is sometime too demanding unless if there is something of interesting to do.

Ohohohohoho, about the 3+2 or 5+2 days of hunt debate, I think that it is not a real problem if is planned that the starting day of the hunt is on Tuesday Big Grin this can mean: on Monday travel, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday hunting, Friday travel.

Incidentally there is a weekend before, good to prepare luggage and rest and one afterwards, good to unpack luggage and rest. Big Grin

It is a wonderfull plan, isn't it?

NP Stefano - no big deal, it is a small world Wink - tho there wouldn't be a problem to organize something, it is much easier if somebody else do the dirty job Wink - serious, there are no magic deals with good places and I am sure Bog will come up with a good one.

If I'd be coming and you have a spare seat I'd gladly share the road - or if someone finds it easier to dust in on Ljubljana - I have a spare seat myself (could be expanded to 3 if there is a need). If someone has a prob with firearm I can bring my R93 along (it is a lefty tho).

From here to next November there is a lot of time to plan and organize travel, road book, car equipes and all is needed.

About my last reply, it is always difficult to have good feeling about patriottic spirit of the people of young nations.

I have a Croatian collegue that isn't patriottic but nationalist and feel offended for any minimal critict about his country.

Of course, living in Italy she is really severe on anything happens here in Italy Roll Eyes Mad
