1894mk2Period Hunting Wear from the early 60s
333_OKH got me thinking about this with his story 'Nostalgia in the Mountains'
https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3411043/m/775108388I've recently bought a '56 8x60S BRNO with an amount of what could euphamisticaly be called patina! My thoughts have got round to wondering what the hunter from the late 50's and early 60s would have been using and wearing with a view to perhaps trying a couple of local hunts so clad and equipped.
So what would your experienced hunter be using in say 1964 (my year of birth)
Optics - What European scope?
Mounts - were Warne in business back then with their Premier or perhaps Conetrol?
Bullets - don't think 8mm partitions were around then how about sierras 175gr or speers 170gr?
Binos - ? What European type and model?
Clothes - ?
Let me know - I think it would be fun project!

Husqvarna M98Optics - What European scope?
Ziess Jena, east european optics, Doctor optics today,
Mounts - were Warne in business back then with their Premier or perhaps Conetrol?
Perhaps but there not european are they?, Brno has as I recall there own mounts, if not, well then you are looking at Swing or clawring mounts.
Eaw would be great,
Bullets - don't think 8mm partitions were around then how about sierras 175gr or speers 170gr?
RWS Kiegelspitz, Norma Alaska, S&B, were all around at the time killing game.
Binos - ? What European type and model?
Ziess BGA 6x30
Clothes - ?
Depending where you are from, surplus M39 uniform if you were Swedish or perhaps some other vadmal clothing, nylon (galon a kind of cloth) was coming in to fashion at the time, a Swedish "modern" would have worn leather clad bävernylon pants and a Helly Hansen sweater over a red and black flanell shirt.
Best regards Chris

Fallow BuckOn the clothing side I think you need to go a little continental....
Apparently you need a Tavern Wench too in order to serve the ale, but I can't post pictures of those...
On a more serious not I have a bag of very old scopes somewhere that might have something that suits you. I'll see if I can dig them up and let you know. Not sure if they are in Cyprus still.
Keep us posted.

Fallow Buck1894,
If you can get acopy of the Cheffins catalogue there are some vintage hunting jackets and breeks oin the next sale. Otherwise, Holts always has some variety of interesteing stuff kicking about. I would be sure of finding the optcs at the very least in the december sale.

Throw in a little camo, here and there, add a tie and some tweeds and it's still the same around here.
Here's Christopher, my son-in-law, after an evening's outing :

It is a Brno ZH combo in 7x57R/16 - I stil have it - I started my hunting with it (same goes for a hat) - here is my first red deer yearling almost 30 years later
