Indeed, Alpine Ibex specie. Mainly in Switzerland and Austria. I wonder if it is a name difference only?
Ibex also in Sudan, Ethiopia, Mongolia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Khazahkstan, Pakistan, Iran, and more yet.

Johan--
No, unfortunately the Ibex of Isreal (I don't recall the specie name) are no longer available for hunting. Too bad. I'm really looking forward to hunting in Switzerland.

Hi Arts
about this argument, no too much kown, and wanting to be absolutely precise, more or less all the Alpine Ibex, more over in Switzerland, are descending from the Italian population of Gran Paradiso Italian National Park, that was previously a Royal Hunting Resort, wanted by Vittorio Emanuele II King of Italy in 19th century.

In Italy, except the Friuli Region, it is super protected, and there are jail and heavy economic sanctions for poachers.

Recently, on last July, many Ibex of Trentino Region dead for sarcoptic scabies disease. Too many in a too little area .......

Differences between Alpine and Asian Ibex are the dimensions, bigger and with a bigger trophy in Asia.

Good hunt.

This has all been very interesting and helpful to me. I go to Swizerland to hunt Ibex and Chamois on 3 September. Thank you!

Hey Arts,
no problem .. hope youll post some nice pics and a nice story when you are back from your trip.
Although im a little bit astonished that in Switzerland they should have IBEX !
Ibex are found -as far as i know- in turkey and spain....in Switzerland they do have "Alpen Steinbcke".

Thanks, Steve. Good info. I know that the Alpine specie in Switzerland will be smaller than my Asian Ibex, but it is another specie. I want the specie and the hunting experience in Switzerland.

The Ibex ( Steinbcke ) live ABOVE the Gams!

I hope you are in very good condition ...

The going price in Austria ( Styria ) I was told, is around 11.000,- )8-0 !!!

Yes, there are some shot legally every year, thanks to importation and tender loving care by professional hunters, but you know how it is: the people, who have the money, who are important, get them for free!

Regrettably, I am not important enough and I hardly wont put down 11.000.- for one piece of game, if there are so many, I havent got! So much game and so little time and money ;-)

Gams/Gems (Rupicapra rupicapra) is what I belive some would call Chamois.

What are Gams? I'm guessing maybe chamois? I know about being in "Ibex shape". I've hunted several, the hardest being in Kyrgyzstan--mostly at 11,000 to 14,5000 feet elevation. I will simply say I'm not paying near that much, but won't elaborate on the cost, other than to say it isn't cheap! But it is special.
