If I ever get to travel to this area. I am interested in their small arms manufacturing industry if it still exists. Like CZ/ BRNO - Mauser can you visit these plants - gunshops while you are in the area?

Sorry for late reply but I became member just some days ago. Crvena Zastava remained single producer who still have ORIGINAL Mauser 98 in production with zero changes in dimensions or material (no moulding, no plastic or tin). Quality of receiver+bolt is still great and many smaller producers are using our action for building custom made Mausers. Barrels are cold forged but quality may vary from extraordinary to low. When I am buying barrel I always control measures (diameter and straightness). I know some long range rifles based on Zastava action and barrel which shoot around 30mm at 300m (.308W). Trigger group, stock and safety should be changed if you want top class Mauser. Can share with U some pictures if you want. Serbian version of Kalashnikov is also on top among other versions but the rest of portfolio is not worth mentioning

Zastava was up for sale a couple of years ago when I as working in the area. Not sure if it ever sold or not.
IIRC it was split into two peices.

A good freind of mine was talking to them about making [very] budget shotguns I think, and I was surprised when I looked into it as to the amount of heritage they have.

It's been a while since I was last in Serbia but would definitely try and incorporate a trip to the factory next time round.

I went to CZ in Brno last year. Email me and I will look up the contact for factory tours. I was dating a Czech girl at the time and she helped work out the details but it should jot be hard. Part of the process is provide g copies of your passport so they can run a security check on you. I will be back in town Monday and able to sort out the contacts then.

You'll be close enough to visit Ferlach, Austria down in the extreme south of that country, if you are in range of CZ. You'll NEVER regret visiting the shops of Ferlach!! Steve

Visiting Feralach is also on my bucket list. I've been reading about those guilds & gunmakers since I was a kid. Especially drillings!
