Leon's first day hunting

Fallow BuckLeon's first day hunting
It only seems like a few months ago that I was footloose and fancy free before the kids came along.
Now in a blink of an eye Leon is nearly six and coming out on his first day hunting with me. Those of you that know me also know that family life has not much restricted my hunting life though!!!
He went to bed tonight with all his clothes laid out ready, and his stick and binocs under his pillow, (actually my range finding monocular which is a better fit!!)
His mum is fretting about toilet breaks and keeping warm, while I think it is time he spent more time with the guys.
All in all I'm not sure if me or Leon is more excited.
Hopefully we will shoot a few hares and he will enjoy a rainless day.

Wendell ReichIt's a pretty big day for both of you. Enjoy.

Fallow BuckWendell we both had a heap of fun, and he is mad for getting out again.
There might be a video with his testimony as to what he thought of his dad's shooting ability...
The words, "uncle mike.... Would you be able to shoot a rabbit for my dad because he keeps missing them, and he needs one for mummy's dinner..." Might have been heard!!
Can't wait to spend another day out with him, and we are planning some fishing trips for the summer out of Brighton with a few mates.

Bill PinkBlimey Kiri, is Leon nearly 6 already, it seems like only yesterday he was just a babe in arms?
Glad you had a good day, I bet it was really exciting for the little lad, and you must be really proud.

Fallow BuckYes Bill, it was very cool.
I suppose my point not very well put was that even with all the hunting I get to take part in, a simple day out watching him enjoy the simplest things was a great joy. It is also a reminder to me of how I felt when I started hunting not much after his age.
He's very keen on a day of fishing in Brighton so we should see if we can get a little bunch of the boys together to get a charter out.

jonherGreat stuff Kiri!
My son is almost 6 and is getting more and more interested.I will be taking him out soon when the weather warms up

Fallow BuckIt's strange as a few months ago he was not at all interested. Now it all changed, but really it is about hanging out with dad. I know I was exactly the same.
It's just nice to be able to hang out together. It is just important they don't get dragged around the fields getting cold and bored, otherwise they will net get interested.
Have fun mate.

Heym SR20Time with kids is never wasted. One of my best was on highland loch in a rowing boat catching wee brown trout and lots of them. K was about four or five, squealed at the first few but then she really got into it. She loves coming stalking and duck shooting as well and has done so for the last few years. I just hope I don't loose to teenage stroppiness, but sure that will be short lived when it comes any day now.

AndersWonderful!

Even though they haven't restricted your hunting life much, this sure opens up new possibilities!
Looking forward to that time myself

AndersShe sure is, mate!

It's a lovely time! I enjoy it a lot!
But she's growing fast.. I'm starting my paternity leave (is that what it's called?) at the beginning of June and ending in October. August is the start of the hunting season here in Norway. I do have a secret deal with my mother and mother in law at that time. Just don't tell Sandra about it

jonherAnders,
I've got my paternity leave booked in for the autumn time as well

Great minds think alike!

Let me know when your next up in the big city and we'll meet up!

Fallow BuckAnders,
Remember that when you go hunting you just tell Sandra you are going to work, and wave the camera at her...
