Fallow BuckUnortunately, after the brighton conference when dead cattle and a horse(I think??) were dumped by the pro hunt, we have only got bad media coverage.
now, everytime there is a clash, the pro hunters are being labeled in the press as thugs. It's tragic but, killing hounds now would accomplish nothing.
Besides, which owner of any dog would willingly sacrifice their animals??
Anyway, I'm still not convinced the ban will happen.

BoghossianWell they could just put some 'retired' hounds out there...we all know wht happens to the hounds after about 6-7 yrs of age...
I too am hopeful that Blair and the HL will come to a compromise...maybe some purely sporting packs will be disbanded but a lot of sheep country packs should get some kind of licence...hopefully.

NitroXPersonally I could never shoot my own dogs or dogs except out of mercy (ie serious old age or pain).
Damned shame if the ban happens. Good luck to the English shooter and stalker if a ban on Fox hunting happens. You will be next, no doubt.

jbderunzYou are right NitroX
When hunting was banned in Scottland a couple of years ago, I saw at the TV the Hunters shooting down their horses and their hounds. It was terrifying.

Sure it will trouble the conscience of the protectionists.

BoghossianMy professor told me that he helped more than 1 farrier file for insolvency due to this stupid ban....
Hell, more foxes are killed now than before! The 50-60% that used to escape the hounds are having trouble getting away from a load of #6s!

robthomThe present political party forming the government of the UK accepted one million pounds sterling, approx. 1.8 million dollars USD, from anti hunting organisations to fund their election campaign.
Additionally, they accepted about the same figure, if I remember correctly, from the racing car industry not to ban tobaco advertising on cars/hoardings around the track.
You get the get the government you deserve. And we, in the UK, have the best politicians money can buy!

BoghossianWell, you can still keep fingers crossed for a compromise!
Here in Scotland the lobby groups have finally dropped their appeals and decided to keep with the current system of shooting foxes that are flushed....nowhere near as fun for the horsey people!
No matter what legislation is passed, terrier work will never die, it is the hounds that are in major peril of being put down within 2 years...I believe the number is around 20,000.

NitroXMaybe a few hounds could be 'sacrificed' now and their bodies used in front of Parliment House to get some media attention ie to portray the future of the dogs when there is no more fox hunting, 20,000 hounds is a lot for the average urban monkey to think about.
Should bring in lots of TV footage.

WAGNER95696Swiss ban hunting and fishing? Could it possibly have anything to do with them finally giving women the vote?
