Hey Stu, it's late August and early September.

Im just arranging dates as I have to be in Scotland on the 3rd sep so I will probably host the early week and leave the second week to one of the guys.

Guys, I was on this hunt and it was by far the best quail hunting I have seen, (I have NO affiliation to kiri or this company in any way other than imediatly booking another trip with him after this hunt)

I was coming off a month in europe sailing and generally partying with friends, and had an injured foot , well by the end of day 4 I had pretty much walked the injury off, the airlines also managed to loose all my hunting clothing, therefore I am the guy in the red sailing shorts and long sleeve white t-shirt (sorry if I ruined the video kiri)

That being said, it was the best quail hunting I have experienced, the birds flushed well, flew strong, and there were plenty of them, even though acording to the locals we were not at the peak of the migration.

I highly recomend anyone who is interested in something like this to go, and if anyone has any further questions about it, I would be glad to answer any and all questions.

Do the dogs point? in other words, remain steady to wing, shot and fall?

Hi Norseman,

The dogs do indeed point but they tend not to drop to flush or shot.

Interesting.

Perhaps a flushing breed would be more suitable such as Springer Spaniel?

I think the GSP's work well and there isn't really a need for spaniels in the cover we are working. I've worked both types in the past and spaniels wouldn't suit this type of hunting.

We get about plenty of shooting off of the points which is really part of what quail shooting is all about.

Kiri,

Great video. Loved watching the GSPs work. My concern, as you noted, low flying birds and enthusiastic dogs, could spell trouble.

Don,

You're talking to a man that has always kept spaniels so watching the dogs is just another day in the office!!

In fact, they weren't really a problem. the Camera has played with the depth of field somewhat so actually the bird were far more clear of the dogs than they appear.

How's it going down there?
