DeerdogsFound my master buck
I sneaked up on what I think is the best buck on my farm last night. He has a broad cup shaped head, six points, about 24cm at a guess. I watched him for 20 minutes as he grazed bluebell shoots and frayed a young sycamore 20 metres from me.
Most striking was the large size of his bollocks! Never seen a ball bag that big on a roe before. If I have my way and he has his they will see plenty of use in the rut!

After all these years I've been measuring the wrong end!!!
Look good on a plaque though, "would you like to see my dried sac collection"

Fallow BuckRichard,
are you gonna give him the news after the rut or does he get a reprieve?
I left my master buck last year (fallow) having had him in thesights at 40-80yds n several occasions. he got hit by a car in the close season, and is dragging a back leg with a deformed antler on the opposite side. this season I haven't had a chance at him having only seen him once at 80yds on the horizon.
I should probably make an effort for him this month.

I pass on a salutory experience. Last year I observed 2 great bucks on different estates during April. I decided that I would wait for one till he was clean and in full summer coat and the other till the tail end of the rut.
I've never seen them since! I spoke with Dominic Griffiths who was of the opinion that it takes a lot of land to be that selective if you are not willing to be dissapointed.
This year I'll do the same but just not be so hopefull
