6th March 2007. Have just completed a Mouflon hunt in Spain with Spanish Outfitters. Hispacaza.

An enjoyable experience. I also had the opportunity to shoot a Wild Boar, but passed up as the only Boar I saw was approx. 40-50 KG. (I was after a big one.)

Great accomodation, food and hunt area. Very professional guiding and organisation.

I can recomend.

The Rifle is a borrowed Browning Acera in 7mm Rem Mag. The shot 120 yards. Grouped well on test and dropped the animal in it's tracks, hit with double lung shot.

Tracker: was it an usual "montería", where the animals are driven by dogs?. I´ve one or two videos of such hunts, more a shooting contest than anything else. Anyway, congrats on your trophy.

Waidmannsheil TrackersNZ, sounds like you had a nice hunt. If you don't mind, what was the cost of the Trophy Fee, and is the length of the horns around ~60cm?. Glad you enjoyed your hunt in Spain, Dom.

The horn length was somewhere from 55-60 (I did not measure with tape only with my fingers. Good bases, and a nice representative. The trophy fee 1,300 euro.

Was a spot and stalk hunt on privately owned estate. This was the biggest one I could find. I glassed 6 mature males total. This one 6-7 years old.

Thanks for the info, I've been to Spain a few times but never hunted there. I'm actually working a Mouflon hunt, but will probably go to Czech Republic. They make for a very interesting trophy. I know they have a lot of Red deer in New Zealand, but not sure if they have Mouflon or not, may not be the right type of shaly rocky ground for them.

Yes in Czech and Slovakia you can get very big Mouflon, and reasonably priced hunts. Spain quite pricey, but an interesting experience.

I beleive the Mouflon all over Europe are all transplanted, with the only place they are native to, being the islands of Sardinia, Corsica and Cyprus. I'm not sure if you are allowed to hunt them in their native land.

BTW: Has any on this site tried skinning a Mouflon, the skin is thin like a rabbit, so have to be very careful.

Nice animal, I have enjoyed stalking mouflon in the Czech rep and they are a wary quarry. I would love to repeat the experience in a more mountainous setting, like the French Alps.

I found them very light bodied, even big males weighing about 55kgs and they are hard to kill with a well placed shot.
