Just wonted to share with you some photos I took in Poland last week.
I used my Sako .338 WM with 225gr. Accubond with great success. Took 4 wild boar, 2 red deer and 1 roe deer in 3 day’s hunting.

It looks that you had a good time. Where was the hunt? Price?

Yes this was a driven hunt nearby a town called Ladycek 190 km. south of Gdansk. The price with everything included (except trophy fee for the Stags) was about 2000 euros (7 day’s total). It was organized by Diana Hunting tours.

Less than $3000 US for a hunt like that seems a bargain....I wish I could interest some friends in a driven hunt in Europe.

2000 Euros for 1 week accommodation including breakfast, lunch and dinner, polish hunting licence and trophy fees ecc. isn’t so bad for a fantastic and memorable week !

Ingvar, Weidmannsheil! It looks like you had a successful week with a lot of fun!!

Regarding prices of such ventures. One can't really compare what Ingvar did to hunting in your own backyard, where you may know areas and people for access, rules and regulations. When I hunt abroad, I expect to end up paying more than what the local hunter does, but then again, I mostly get improved services for my money - guiding, accommodation, transport etc etc. In that sense, this does not sound like an expensive hunt. Try pricing a hunt in North America, and see what the average cost and number of animals shot on such a hunt is.

Shootaway, only to people who know nothing about Central European hunting in general, and driven hunting in particular. But I guess your origin (to some extent) pardons or at least explains your comment.

Some hunts are geared towards trophy hunting, it is very rare that driven hunting in Central Europe has this as its main objective. Rather the drives at the end of the season mostly aim at managing game populations. Consequently, the participants are mostly provided with rules for what can be shot, and what not. Females and this years fawns/calfs are often high on the list. Likewise smaller pigs. In the end it is the exitement that really matters, any trophy animal allowed and taken is simply an added bonus. You should try it once, it can be very exiting. In addition, you'd learn a whole bunch both about hunting in other countries but also about hunting hunting traditions and etiquette. I'm sure you would enjoy it.

Was the red stag an 11 or 12 pointer, six points on the right antler I can see, but maybe 5 (or four?) on the left, maybe 6?

Could you let us know (or PM me) the stag trophy price? I once had a German guy wanting to hunt here, willing to fly to Aust to hunt a stag similar to that one.

Great hunt. 7 animals in 3 days is a busy hunt.

And that is a great price! Wow. That's about the price for 1 good deer on private land here in Texas or a years fee for a game lease. And & $7500 for a one week elk hunt is not uncommon.

Was it difficult getting your rifle into and out of Poland?
How about getting skins and mounts out?

John ! The Stag is an 11 pointer and trophy fee varies from 1000 euros (3 kg.) to 3300 euros (over 8 kg.). It isn’t so difficult to get the rifle to and from Poland; just a little paperwork before departure. When arriving in Poland the military checks your papers and rifle ecc. They stamp your papers and you are good to go ! Same procedure when leaving Poland. Skins and mounts no problem; just check in as regular luggage (at the airport)

I never attendet such a hunt myself, but it sure sounds like a great way to spend some days.

Another ting I find a bit amusing is that traveling with firearms in Europe seems to be a bit less cumbersome that traveling in or out of USA / Canada with guns.

I worked a summer in a small town called Sandgerdi close to Keflavik in 1973 I guess it was. Building houses for the people from Vestmannaeyar who lost their homes in the Helgafell eruption.
