Heritage Arms6,x57mm
I just recieved my new barrel for the 6,5x57mm, what is the best bullet weight for this calibre, I intend to shoot roe deer and fallow with it. I was thinking 139 grs?

ozhunterI have a Mauser stutzen and a Blaser Attache in 6.5x57 with both using RWS 127grn CONE POINTS {great on fallow and rusa size game}. I also have some 140grn SWIFT A FRAMES for large game but have not used them yet.

dutchgusI would say between 120 and 140 grains. For roe deer I also use the 127 gr. RWS cone point and for the occasional wild boar a 140 grain Partition.
For practice shooting, fxes, crows etc. I'm very pleasased with a reduced load behind the 85 grains Sierra HP.

budicealei can't say what the best is, but last year i used what i think is a mild/medium load in my 6.5x57...a 140 grn remington bulk bullet at 2550 fps. it did a great job on the two deer i killed with it. good expansion and complete penetration on both and one was an angled shot so it had to penerate a long way.
that being said...my favorite .264 bullet for the medium capacity 6.5's will always be the 129 grn hornady.
have fun with your 6.5x57...bud
You can also try the Nosler 120/125 grain Ballistic Tips and Partitions which might easily shoot to the very same POI.
Then use the BT for roe, PT for pigs.

bumscratcherI would try 129g hornadys before anything else, you should be getting the same ballistics as the 270 win without the recoil and bang.
good choice B

Heritage ArmsHere is a group from the 6,5 last night

Aleko,
Good Shooting!
You can cut those groups in half - think of the 6.5x57 as a .257 Roberts and use 100, 117, 120 & 125 grainers in 6.5 caliber and be very careful with the AOL; it will produce benchrest groups!
