The roe deer that came in from the sea
Hi, this is not a joke; thursday evening, July 09 at 21.00 hours, a surfcaster that was fishing nearby (see the map) glimpsed in the darkness a strange animal swimming toward the shore, very close to him; the critter reached land then felt totally exausted. The fisherman could realize that it was a roe deer; he called the forest wardens that could recover the animal; it is currently in fairly good conditions and will be released in a inland wooded area. Nobody here can explain or understand the reasons of such an incredible event.....

It is well known that British Deer take surfing holidays in Cornwall to escape the heat, the midges and just chill a bit:

Unfortunately, well intentioned but uninformed coastguards try to rescue them rotflmo

I have a DVD of Chinese water deer in their natural habitat in China. Very similar to the screen shots shown in previous postings.

I will try and post something if I am able to get around this regional codec "thing"

Anybody good at doing this ?

That fisherman must have had to put up with plenty of comments about his piscatorial prowess! Goes out to catch a fish, comes back with venison. Personally I'd call that a result.

There are regular reports from all round Britain of deer species, roe included, being seen at sea by fishermen, landing on beaches and generally swimming about the place. Roe are great colonisers of new land and to get there they are quite happy to swim. They cross lakes and rivers, but will also swim round headlands along the coast. It seems likely that tide and current sometimes takes them out further than they expected and sometimes returns them to unexpected places.
