Went home for some vacation and had a great hunt...
Actually it was two days of great hunting.

In good company with my girlfriend I went home to Skåne ower a few day between Christmas and new year.

I was furtunate enough to get invited to hunt again, just like last time.

Typical southern Sweden hunt, small grounds, two dogs that only flush game and lots of game in the forrest.

The first day the weather was poor but I was still happy, I had three deer, doe with two large calfes passing me in my stand, i saw my first deer (dovhjort) when hunting and had a great time,

We ate out at the wind shelter and just enjoyed the day.

One lucky gun had a nice stag come in to his stand, being flushed earlier bu one of the dogs.

Nice according to Swedish standard but not huge.

I belive Diana reworded me for passing on the risky shot at the roedeers, they were doing a full trott @ 120 meters.

The very next day at the arrival at my stand, i found yet another doe, roedeer with two calfes in range and at my stand, however, the hunting master, had not mentioned roedeer at the begining of the hunt, just deer (dovhjort) and boar, so I decided to hold my shot, regardless that I could have done a clean kill and that they are in season.

Yet another vise decision as things turned out,

after som 30 minutes, I could here one of the dogs flush something close by and the snap of small twigs signalled that something was heading my way.

In an instant a single smallish, as it appeared to me, boar appered, however it was close running in a straight line no more than 15 meters from my stand paralell doing good speed.

I had brought my stalking rifle with a 6-24x56 Ziess on top and felt utterly malequipped.

I let the boar pass me buy, and at the same time as I stood to sving, all I could see were three trunks and branches, I caught up with the boar, body filled all of my wiev in the scope, when my crosshair came upon the snout, my shot rang out and the boar tumbled like a rabbit in the shot.

A quick follow up and the hunt was safe,

Ten minutes later my father called and asked how I had done, great I said and look at the pic, a proud father is he not.

I am somewhat blurry, perhaps the nut behind the camera.

A small game parade after a succesfull halfday of hunting.

A happy new year to you all and wishings of great season of hunting to come.

Thanks, on all accounts,

The boar is being tested for triknins, perhaps in english, a parasite and if passed I will have parma styled ham to look forward to when I go home in late april.

Best regards Chris.

Steffen, it´s a Dovhjort, ie that could wery well be what you call a dådyr.

IN Sweden whe have four spiecis of deer, roedeer, reindeer aka caribou, dovhjort (Dama Dama)and kronhjort (cervus Elapus).

There might have been a few fenced populations of whitetails and others but not in the wild, authorities over here would not allow it.

Best regards /C

Nice hunt and pictures, I am v jealous of mixed bag driven hunts!

That is a nice fallow for any wild population.

The shooter will have the deer caped and mounted, it was his biggest, fallow as far.

Did I mention that the same guy took a wild shot at a roe deer the second day and most likly hit somewhere inbetween the sky and the three tops.

Roes at full speed are truly hard to hit targets.
