Sako Mausers 8x60 from the fifties were still made for the old .318" bore. I have had one.

Fritz,
you will be right, of course. I do not know about rifles from Sako, Brno and other non-German makers. Also I do not know if they used the German system for designation of bore diameter.

How can you say the Germans were not organized?
ALF,
I said: not always .. Anyway, I am one of them, so I should be entitled to know
From the bits and pieces I read there seems to be quite a mess regarding "8 mm" hunting cartridges before WWII, e.g. no uniform or clear designation rules, some gunsmiths proposing to use .323 bullets in .318 bores for better results, bullets constructed (or cartridges loaded ?) for use in both bore diameters, etc. I have a 1942 (or 44?) RWS handbook somewhere (see, organisation?) that describes this. One interesting clue from this book is that before WWII actually the .318 bore must have been predominant for hunting rifles in Germany. For most cartridges there were more .318 loads available than .323 loads.
