mhoA Potential World Record Red Stag from Bulgaria
The German hunting mag "Jagen Weltweit" (JWW - Hunting Worldwide) has what might be a potential world record red stag on its front page this month. Taken in Bulgaria, the trophy was thus far measured at 279.79 CIC points. (Gold medal is anything over 210).
It should be noted, that this was a free ranging stag, not a product of a breeding operation in a fenced compound. Apparently, stags over 250 CIC have alredy been taken in the same hunting area.
Sadly, I have only been able to find the following, rather inadequate picture, but apparently the hunt was videoed and is featured in Paul Parey Verlag's (the publisher of JWW) new video on hunting in Bulgaria. (I hasten to add, that I have no connection to JWW or Paul Parey).

MACBULGARIA!!!!!!!
I was ther in late July with the navy and loved it. Much nicer than I expected it to be. I never got the chance to do any hunting, but I'd sure love to go back.
I thought the USA had some good beach scenery, but we don't hold a candle to that place or Romania either. Unbelievable women in eastern Europe.

IanFSorry - but to me that is ugly. Big - but ugly!
Wild freakish points don't have the same beauty as a classic head. A friend took a beauty here a couple weeks back - will try and post for comparison.

Pete EIan,
I certainly wouldn't complain if he was hanging on my wall!

Having said that I tend to agree with you, although I think the CIC scoring system for Roe is the worst offender..

Pete

Fallow BuckNot my thing TBH.
I'd probably shoot it given the choice but I don't think it is a particularly pretty trophy.

I think if it wasn't referred to as a Red Deer then I wouldn't have a particular view on it but as it is I wouldn't say it was exacty Monarch Of The Glen...

IanFNow THIS is a stag!

Wild animal taken off the moor here in the South West of England.
Beautiful, symmetrical and massive - classic conformation.

IanFOK - details are in regarding this beastie. Congratulations to anyone guessing anywhere in the following region!
Officially scored at 273 points (CIC) which makes it the fourth largest wild stag EVER taken in the UK.

Weight was 434 lbs - equating to 31 stone!
Taken off the edge of Bodmin Moor, the happy stalker was a Danish client as far as I know. He was guided onto this beasty by Paul Messenger, who runs Beckland Game services here in Devon.
It seems that the stag came from a part of the moor where he was undisturbed and well fed. The previous night the client had also taken a 14 point stag - this gorgeous beast then showing at last light.
There are at least two other stags in the area that Paul reckons are as big or larger! Could be we have not heard the last of this part of the UK

Stu CIan,
Just wondering, in the UK are clients ever charged a trophy price based on trophy quality? Would this guy have cost a small fortune as it would have in Eastern Europe somewhere?

Pete EStu,
I am not sure in this particular case, but charging by the CIC score or other similar methods is sadly getting more common over here..

Pete
