Flying from Basel/Mulhouse to London Gatwick: what papers?
Hi, in June I gonna fly from Airport Basel/Mulhouse to London/Gatwick, have booked a roe deer hunt in Devon.

With me will be a Krieghoff Hubertus single-barrel rifle in 6,5 x 57 R plus ammo. What papers do I need in order to take the rifle a) from Germany over the french border to the airport and b) into the UK?

I'm looking forward to your excellent advise...

For the UK part of the trip, you need your host to apply to his local police force for a temporary UK visitor firearms permit prior to your visit - you'll need to supply him with details of your rifle, including its serial number, plus a scan of your passport and something like a firearms permit or hunting license. It costs £12 and takes 1-3 weeks to process. Your host then needs to send this to you so that you can show it at UK customs when you collect your firearm on arrival in the UK.

If you're stalking with an outfitter, they'll be familiar with this process and have it under control (even in deepest, darkest Devon - land of leather-trousered, Village People moustached pro-stalkers... Wink).

You need to keep your UK permit with you whenever you are using your rifle in the UK.

Hope this helps.

Adam.

Dear Adam,
thank you so much. In the meantime I have contacted the Devon/Cornwall police in order to find out the details, just to get as many infos as possible. Their reply should reach me by tomorrow. Where do you live, somewhere in Devon?

Sunny regards from South Africa,

Klaus

Klaus,

If you are hunting with Ian he will be able to sort out the permit for you. Timing depends on the local constabulary so best bet is to try and get the application in ASAP.

Costs are often a little more to cover postage and any time required by the guide to deliver/collect applications.

Adam isn't based anywhere near as civilised as Devon....

Hi Klaus,

Ask any questions & I am always happy to answer them for you - I am still waiting for your WBK for the new Kipplauf.

Until you let me have that, the clock is ticking and you are getting closer to hunting with a .375! Wink

Time to kick the gunsmith again!

I will send another Email to confirm this.

Best wishes,

Ian Smiler

For the Transport from Germany to France:
It depends where your rifle is registered. If it is registered within the European Union, the EU Fire arm pass is enough to travel with the gun.

If your weapon is from South Africa, you may need additional papers. In the worse case you need some for France and for Germany. Depending on your traveling route.

Thank you Gerac, are you french? The gun is registered in Germany. Just to be on a safe side I also asked a France Consulate in Germany, still waiting for a reply.

If it is registered in Germany then you should be able to get a European Firearms Passport (Wiki).

With this you are allowed to transport the Weapon without an issue.
