As for moose hunting, I do it in Ontario, Canada, and last moose I got was at 480yr. I used .300Rum with 200gr Accubond bullet, V0= 3000fps (913m/s)

9.3x64 is just perfect for everything, I am going to load it with 286gr Barnes TSX, and will try to make it accurate at around 2650fps.

I agree, 3-12 is way too much, and I should look at 1.5-6x, plenty of magnification for 300yr anyway.
I will take a look at SB or Zeiss.

Peter Pan, I use a 2.5/10x42 Swarovski on my 30-06, and that scope has taken a hammering and never had a problem with it. was In a minor crash in truck in Africa, rifle,scope and myself ended up against the steel bulkhead of the truck, creased the turret cap on the scope and it never even lost zero.
I not an expert, just going on my own experiences.

I thought that this would be an easy choice but now that Scudrunner has thrown some more quality names into the arena I may have to think long and hard!!
My first choice would have been a S&B or a Kahles but now maybe a tasco or an ASI or a Hawke, who knows..

Now that we have had the discussion on lowlight scopes, which is the best reticule for lowlight and which is fine enough for long distance..

As far as hunting goes, shouldn't "low light" and "long range" be best avoided????

I have a Swarovaki 3-13x50 with an illuminated dot reticual ( can't remember the size) but it's probably too large for what you want....If you can hang on, Swarovski are due to introduce an illuminated reticule in their new Z6 scopes...might be worth waiting to see what they are like...

Pete, what I think Griff ment was, best low light reticule that is not too thick to use at longrange in better light conditions, not best lowlight longrange reticule.
