Tell Me.

What is hunting like in the Euro countries?? I mean in America one can go to either a public hunting ares depending on the state or to Federal BLM land or like me go to a lease. so what do you have to do in Germany,France, England, Norway, Sweden, ect. Do you have leases? state lands? Do you have a hunting season? Do you have rules about what sexes can be taken, hours of the day you can hunt,caliber for game being hunted? I just wondering how its done overseas.

That was a whole lotta' questions.... Which ones has the highest priority...??
Are you planning a trip?
Basically hunting here in Europe has the same fundamental rules as in the states. (huntingseason, which species can be hunted a.s.f.) Each country has its own rules, but they are much alike.
One thing that differs a lot from the states or other "young" countries, australia for instance, is that our ways go way back in time. So in many european countries there is a lot of tradition involved. For an ex. Here in Denmark we do not just bag the game and go home.. the hunt is not over 'till proper respect has been payed by a a ceremony, you could compare to a "lit d' parade".
This ceremony involves music.. Some tunes are blowed on hunting horns, so called Fï¿½rst Pless horns. Same thing in Germany, France, Poland .....
But funny enough, not in Sweeden and Norway, that are the countries we danes normally compare ourselves to.

Niels, first I have heard of the music, but I have been exposed to some European hunting rituals. Have been hunting with my Canadian friend Rockhead, his father is from Austria. The sprig of green in the mouth of the creature is what I have seen. I am hunting moose in Quebec with the two of them next month, perhaps I will see more. -Fred

when we hunt in quebec I believe it is mandatory (I'll have to check this year's regulations)that we celebrate our success with vast quantities of canadian beer, frequently in shady establishments.

Thank you for the information. I think those traditions are great and appreciate the respect shown the quarry and the hunt. I hope to make it across the pond to hunt in Euorpe with some of our "older" brothers after I make it to Africa.
