This virus looks like its going to have serious implications for livestock farming across Europe.
It seems unlikely that Deer will be immune. I guess we won't notice the impact until the hinds and does start to produce young later in the Spring.
Do any of you European AR members belong to Hunting Associations which have a monitoring plan in place which you could share with us?

Looks like its caught the whole of Europe with its pants down.

The real cacking will start though in the next few months.

The Orthobunya family of viruses is known but the vector of this one is as yet unproved.

Probably one of the Culicoides family but it could be something of an interactive transmission. WNV for instance can be carried by migrating birds but spread from them by mozzies.

Just spoke to a couple of landowners and they have already had some dramatic deformations in their early lambs. With the lack of cold weather and dampness insect borne diseases must be rife.

It sounds horrific when you hear what people have had to do to get the lambs to birth.

The Farmers I'm in touch with think that, with the main lambing flush over, there will be little new reporting of abnormal births for a while.
