Heym SR20An interesting article - just goes to show that its not guns that are violent, nor are cars, knives, pitchforks, bows and arrows etc. Its people and the culture.

Iceland has none of the undesirables that populate every corner of the US. Our biggest problem here is the growing contingent of people who feel no compulsion to do anything but have more children than they can support and smoke cigs......worse than that is our tolerance of same.

boarkiller0h boy Norton. You hit it on the spot. But you still said it very politically correct. Nobody would ever say the raw truth. They would be labeled the worst racists in good old US of A.

Nordic2The thing is that you must think of your country as one people and treat all citizens as equal. If you have a social security system and helthcare were all are treated equal most of the poverty and crime will dissapear.

What you're missing is that the sector of our population that is unwilling to contribute ANYTHING is growing exponentially. Why would I want to treat a deadbeat equally when I've worked my ass off to become a physician that pays 40% federal income tax and then another 30% in myriad other taxes every time I go to spend a dollar?
Can I ask how you stop indigent losers from having multiple children when we continue to reward that behavior?

Nordic2Number of children is direktly related to the mothers education level, the rising education level in india and africa makes familys wanting about two children.
It takes a lot of effort to take people living in a bad situation to a higher level. Both community resorces and a feeling what change is possible must be there. Most people what have a stable good situation tink that they have made it by their own but in most cases its luck to have the right surroundings.
Hmm we about the same tax level 32-50% +vat

You are of course correct. In broad terms, the Nordic countries have small, homogeneous and wealthy populations. That makes all the difference in the world. Even in Canada, the difference in lifestyle between eastern and western parts of the country is significant and leads to tensions. Once you get major cultural divides within a populous country, things go bad in a hurry.

Nordic2Yes differences between people are increasing in Sweden poverty and crime are growing. Our government who is similar to a coalition between democrats and republicans are letting it happen. We have the worlds most unregulated shools rules, riskcapitalists are investing in schools and if it dont work the local government and children is taking the hit.
