b.martinsPedrosa's photos are magnificent. They capture the real spirit of the Portuguese "montaria". I know Ana since she was a toddler and hunted with her father for many years and still do. To see that girl handling a pack of dogs in thick bush and pushing the wild boars out is something worth to see!
What every gun needs, apart from calibre, is a good shot and hunter behind it. - José Pardal

Fallow BuckBeautiful pictures indeed.
I think Portugal is one of the secret destinations for hunters.
I'm going out there in December with a group for a Monteria for boar and Red deer.
Added to that the people are ultra friendly, food and wine is plentiful, and I would say it is the best coffee in the world!!

I suppose you will be hunting with Manuel. If so you are likely to meet some of the dog handlers (matilheiros) portraited on those photos.

PondoroI would love to hunt wild boar in Alentejo myself, beautiful country..

b.martins, I see you have a line spoken by Jose Pardal. I have a signed copy of his book on elephant hunting in Mozambique...a fantastic piece of history about hunting as it was at its best back then..

b.martinsThat can be arranged! I have had Nordic friends and co-workers (from Sweden) coming to hunt with us.
I was fortunate to know José Pardal. Never had the chance to hunt with him though!
In 2012, on our SCI chapter annual dinner, we paid tribute to Mestre José Pardal for a lifetime devoted to hunting and hunters. He was already very ill by date time and died eight months latter.

BoghossianFantastic pictures - I have been on a couple of monteria hunts in this area and even though I wasn't particularly successful, I really enjoyed the local hunting tradition and convivial atmosphere.
If you like hunting with dogs, listening to the matilheiros and their pack of podencos and dogos is most impressive.

Very different from Croatia, isn't it.

Yes we will be. I've just finalised the package so we have an excellent hunt for us to include the stags in the Monteria for free.
I'm just in the process of designing the hunt offer brochure so very excited and already thinking about the choice of gun for the trip!!!
