This compacted and tangled wad of black and white polythene was found in the stomach of a fallow buck I shot on Saturday. Quite obvious at the top of the stomach during the field gralloch. The buck was fit and fat. No way of knowing how long it had been there but it didn't look recent. Looked to me like silage baling.

Fallow BuckIsn't it amazing what turns up... for a beast that is so selective about the food they eat it's hard to think how it took that lot in.
How old was he?

konst#1Hey 1894,
seems to be that you have a good hunting area !
Congratulations and Weidmannsheil to the Stag.
I would too go with the "alternative" with the silage baling.
Especially fallows are realy curios and do have a childrens attitude to play with everything that they can find.
all the best

DeerdogsIs that a knot of orange baling twine in the middle?

trans-pondI doubt he's had that little lot in his stomach for long, without it blocking some orifice!
Got many local field stacks of baled silage? The white wrap is a good clue, because it's not popular. I bet he has been worrying a stack in the last week or so!
A good one to cull anyhow; shot a fox yesterday morning sound asleep curled up, in a stand of big fir trees; raining and blowing outside, peace and tranquility in trees....slight pangs of guilt....he was 50 yards from pheasant hopper.

1894I can't quite make out the lighter material - it could be baler twine that has been bleached. I think it swallowed this whilst eating spillage from the stack which is only about 400yards away.

DeerdogsWhite and pale green wrap is becoming more popular. It reflects heat and prevents the silage from going off to quick. Better food value.

Fallow BuckTrans...
I can't say I have ever felt guilty about sending Charlie to the big pheasant pen in the sky.
How have you done with the birds this year? having a lot of trouble with wandering birds up here due to the warm weather.
First day on Saturday can't wait!!
