243 Best Powders 75-87g ?
In this far flung land we call the U.K.,we can only get regular supplies of Alliant,Hodgdon and Vihtavuori powders.
Bearing this in mind what powders would you recommend for.
75g V MAX and the 87g Horn' Soft Pt.

Cheers Rob T.

Try Hodgdon Varget or H414 and RL-22 or RL-19!
The Varget is especially popular in the 75 grain
and 87 grain in .243 win these days. I have excellent results with Rl-19 in the 85 to 100gr
bullets. If you can get them try the 85gr Sierra
BTHP sometime. Good luck! BLR7 [Cool]

Thanks for your input.
I'll try Re 19 1st.
I have a bit left over from my old 270.

Rob,

I shoot a lot of 243. In the 75, 80 to 87 grain catagories, I shoot a lot of mid burn rate powders. RL 15, IMR 4064, 4895 and H 380.

I like to get the best cross between velocity and accuracy with the least amount of powder.

Instead of being cheap on the powder, the motivation is the more powder I burn ( in a case)
the less efficient it is in burning it. The direct result is throat erosion. That is what I am trying to avoid. Mid range powders give great accuracy in the 243 size and x 57 mm cases.

Thanks again for the input .
Ive got the 75g Shooting .46" @100y with 38.5 H4895.Superb on non edible targets.
I,m going to start with the 87g now using the same powder.
37g groups an inch so i've got a base line to work on.

Rob: The RL 19 should work well. As 1894 suggests, VV N160 will do the trick. In the Hodgdon line, H-414 or H4350 would be good bets --at least for the 87 grain bullet. In fact, the 87 grain bullet can even benefit from H4831 or RL 22. These powders may be a tad on the slow side for the 75 grain bullets (depending on your individual rifle), so if your load of H4895 is doing well with the 75's, I wouldn't change it.

Actually, there is a plethora of powders which do well in the .243 with these bullet weights.

Thanks Lads,
I have a chronograph lined up.
The rifle has 20" brl and I've got H4895,H414,Re 19,22 and Vit 160 and a box of 87g blts on my bench.
I asked Hodgson and they said H414 would be the best the others did not reply.
Thanks Rob T.
