Wipe-Out in Europe?
Some of you might have seen the discussion regarding a bore cleaning foam called "Wipe-Out" in the Big Bore forum. It is supposedly better than the Finnish produced Forrest product.

I've tried for some time to find out from the Wipe-Out producer if there is anyone who imports the stuff to Europe so I can buy some, but unfortunatly he is rather lazy when it comes to replying... And of course they can't send any to me directly by airmail because of the silly US mail laws. As if a can of this stuff would blow up a plane...

Does anyone here know if Wipe-Out is sold somewhere in Europe?

Stefano,

Perhaps you too can send him an e-mail asking about European distributors? Smiler

Does that apply to all aerosols in Australia?

I can't help but question this type of law. Tons of aerosols are sent by air all over the world without problems...

Yes, I have never quite understood this either. But maybe that just reflects my lack of knowledge?? Roll Eyes

Gerry and I just had about 15lbs of propellant shipped by mail, nobody said a thing, no post offices blown up either.

PeteE, 1894 and you other UK guys, were you not able to obtain Wipe-Out in the UK at one time??

Aerosol pressure containers are not the only problem with shipping solvents. It is the corrosive nature of the contents, ie will dissolve metal, that scares the daylights out of airlines. Pressurized containers have a tendency to leak when subjected to less than 1 atmosphere and getting just a little bit of a product capable of dissolving any metal part on an airplane is not desirable from their point of view.

Wink,

Thanks, I didn't consider that side of the problem. Your explanation sounds logical.

ErikD,
some EU distributor of products for shooting sports should import it.
One of the possibilities is the following, buy an entire box of them and sell them in some meeting like the one (The Scandinavian Big Bore Meeting 29-30 april 2005) that will be in Kinna near Goteborg. The only problem is that the date is too close

Gentlemen, I hate to be a pessimist but I tried once or twice to get SharpShoot-R (The Paul Company) to reply to an e-mail with no sucess. I also tried to call them today to examine the possibility of a large order which those of us in Europe could split up upon delivery and get a constant busy signal. I am willing to try again from time to time but I don't think Old Europe is high on their marketing priorities.

Good news! I just spoke with the manufacturer and there is no problem with air shipment of Wipe Out to Europe. They have no Euro distributor but they will take individual orders with a small discount for a case of 12 cans @ 120 US Dollars plus shipping. So gentlemen, place your orders. I also got a better e-mail address: tppaco@aol.com This will get you directly to the person who will arrange for the international order and shipping.

Wink,

That's been my experiance too. I've sent numerous e-mails to him without getting a reply. That is beside one where he stated that there was no distributor in Norway... When I then sent a mail back asking him about other European countrys, no reply came...

Funnily enough, it is available in Australia! I personally would think that the European market potential was larger???

Ah Erik, there are or at least used to be lots of fine old double rifles down here that maybe provided the market. OR the guy in Melbourne that distributes it saw a market opportunity.

That's great Griff!

I just went and ordered 5 from your online store, and look forward to trying it out as soon as possible.

I don't need 5 myself of course, but I thought I'd give a few to some friends and family to try out, since I hear that it is better than Forrests bore foam.

Ed, when you do try it out, I have found WipeOut works best when you quickly remove powder fowling before applying the WipeOut. I.e. a few passes with a bronze brush wetted with solvent, followed by two solvent patches. Then apply the WipeOut, and leave to sit for 12 hours, maybe. Watch out for getting the WipeOut on wooden surfaces, and wear gloves when using it.

ErikD, looking foreward to hear your report. Fore some strange reason, on the BoreFooam cans the manual says to leave in bore for 15 minutes. My experienses tells me that if left in bore for 4 hours the effect is highly imrooved. Unless you have experienced the same, please consider this when comparing the two?

Thanks,

Bent,

If you are talking about Forrest (MilFoam) Borefoam, I agree that it needs much more time than it says on the can. Definatly several hours. However, I've been told that the foam made by Forrest/Milfoam shouldn't be left in for that long due to it containing ammonia. Which Wipe-Out doesn't contain as far as I know, and thus is safer to leave in the bore for longer. Maybe someone else has heard this too?

Griff,

Still no sign of the package. Do you have a tracking number you could PM me?

Anders,
the last consignment to Norway took 14 days, the second was a little quicker, this was due to the declaration at customs. We have sorted the declaration form out so that it should expedite its travel.

Boys, be VERY careful to not allow the foam to touch your wood stocks. It will absolutely destroy the finish in short order.

I found out by accident when cleaning a surplus M1 rifle. As it turns out, I used the balance of the can to strip the oil-soaked stock. But I would hate to see what it would do to a well-finished piece of walnut.

HP Shooter,
there is a warning with wipe-out that it does remove old shellac type varnishes quickly, I would supsect that your old M1 has that particular finish. It "does not" affect modern varnish.

My M1 came straight out of a US Army Arsenal as surplus, so it was finished in the milspec linseed oil finish plus about 30 years worth of grime.

I would definitely try a dab of Wipe Out on a hidden surface of the stock's finish before trusting the label.

Is the Wipe-Out a "daily" cleaning product or is it used only when you have been a bit lazy for a time..? Smiler

use it to remove stubborn fouling overnight, after which a 5 minute soak is all that is needed..
