Marionorvegian reindeer hunting?
They offered me a reindeer hunt in the mountaineous part of Norway between the towns of Dombås, Sunndal, Åndalsnes and Oppdalorway. Seems a very attractive opportunity for taking a very interesting animal.
Some of you have ever hunted in this area? I'm interested to know if tha reindeer are abundant and if ther'is the possibility of taking a good trophy.

Steffenwell...abundant and abundant, they're not a threatened specie, but they don't grow on trees either.
do you know which area you'll be hunting?
Forelhogna and Snøhætta are known for big deers and easier to hunt than some other places.
if you're looking for a trophy head, then tell you guide clearly.
a good animal in Norway = big lump of meat, we usually don't care much for horns.
haven't hunted them, so i can't help you any further.

MarioSteffen, thanks for the reply.
I dont know the exact area. I know that the wild animals ( also the domestic...) dont grow on trees, but my request was directed to know if in one week of hunting I can spot a good number of reindeers and I can have a choice for good bull. Also if ther'is lot of competition with the locals.

Husqvarna M98Mario- haven´t hunted for reindeer,
however I have friends that have, the thing about the deers are that they migrate and in herds,
the window of opportunity might be five minutes in a whole week and with a herd of 300 or more deer it´s really hard to get the one good shot at one animal.
Regardless of that, I would go, yes I would, some hunts are more about being there, living it rather than shooting game,
this is one of those hunts.
Best regards Chris

Hello Mario
In that area you refering too is in the erea called Snøhetta, This is a very tuff area to hunt in, the succesrate is about 40 -45%.
I know this area very well, I worked in this area as Mountainranger for 10 years.
If you got the offer in Sunndal an the eastern region, you are depending of north wind or a agreement with the County of Dovre or Lesja to hunt in that area, a few licenses is drawn to do so, then the possibility is better
This is a 6000feet high peak in this area.
And this is the queen of mountains in this area Snøhetta, 7800 feet high

That statement cracked me up. Practicality and unemotional attachment, wot?

MarioThanks guys,
now is a little bit clear.
They offered me also a trip in Greenland where I've the impression that the success rate on big bulls is higher

The Snøhetta is the hard and tuff, the Forollhogna is the easy way.
I can get a big bull in Forollhogna for about 2200 Euro
The possibility to take one of these is big, 960 CIC points
The reindeer in Snøhetta is the last rest of the pure genetic mountainreindeer thar are left in the world
The hunting is hard, climbing up and down mountainsside waking distanses kan be 20 - 30 km per day 10 - 15 hours of walking in worst cases, and 1 hor in the easyest cases it`s the variety thats make this hunt so interessting
