What would you all say was your average rate of outings to kills?

On the fallow this year I have had just under 3outings per shot.

It would be interesting to see the differences in success rate between species.

Quite an interesting topic. More later but here the average hunters shots and hit rates are no where the same

On fallow I would say about the same except around the rut and when the does are in season.

Roe - generaly about 1 for 1 due to multiples on does and multiples on bucks at the start of the season. I shot 14 bucks for 10 outings from the 1st April. A lot of success is down to how much land you have - the more you have the more you can shoot easy deer. It looks good numbers wise but doesn't make you better than the stalker who really works his patch well

We keep statistics on our lease and, year in - year out, the average remains around 10 h sitting/stalking for a kill. Now, we see lots of Roe each time (5-20 on average) but our legal shooting plan is so strict that one is always after an individual animal and others have to be passed up until the "chosen" one shows up.

Sounds just about what I had when I was in Europe. 1 in 10.

My experience Roe are easier than fallow, Red are easiest of all.
That said got first roebuck this season yesterday morning....worth waiting for!
Tuesday evening I came across this fellow. I was traversing a wooded bank of ash and oak and such. Spotted buck and doe in field/neglected new plantation browsing and fraying amongst young conifers. Sat and watched for ten mins. waiting for a clear(ish) shot. He came within 50 metres but I was enjoying watching.. not really needing to kill..getting soft?? Eventually she barked and they both exited.
No real regret for not shooting until I found the full extent of his fraying damage.
Went back 36 hours later, watched him come in from 250 to half that distance then I lost him for 5 mins. in a marshy field bottom.. b***** it!
The doe appeared 200 yards away and barked to him, he trotted into view and I had a lovely clear prone bipod shot at 120 yards.
So I expect I've been out 8 times in last 3 weeks for the one buck... seen a few, watched a few, even shot at and missed the one a fortnight ago!
Did grass a Red stag last week though, on the first of three forays after a marauding group that took up temporary residency on local dairy farm. Indeed that's where I should be now but I overslept!!

Looking at my gamebook about 1 in 3 but this is skewed as you either have a lot of fallow for a week or they disappear. At Easter I took 3 in three stalks each within 30 minutes of leaving the car. Due to extensive pheasant shooting the doe cull gets completely screwed up in Nov to Jan but hey thats hunting.

I know what you mean about the fallow coming in fits and starts. They seem to vanish for a while then re appear en masse... Usually when i'm too busy to get out!!!

So you're off the mark!!! Well done. I went up to Suffolk this weekend. Stalked round tot he high seat with my mate and spotted Buck and Doe feeding in the wheat. When the Buck pu his head up I got aa bit excited!!! He was GOOD! There was nothing I could do apart from try and get up into the high seat without them spotting me. I banged the rifle barrel on the frame as I was about to sit down and they were off!! 30 mins later the dDoe came out with a yearling buck who was promptly flattened. I waited up in the seat for another hour and half in case big Bro came out again but it was not to be...

Nice to have some Roe in the larder though!!!
