Quail WingRe: What is dappled deer?
Ian,
Thanks, I had thought that as well, then I ran into this website.
http://www.is.lt/ltour/hunt.html#prices They seem to show a spotty deer, noble deer and fallow deer all with different seasons.
I also had turned up this link:
http://www.imones.lt/kupuredija/index.php?page=products&pid=2#That simply does not appear like a fallow deer to me. Could be wrong.
Pete
Sika - yes, could well be - based on the spotty summer coat. But then again, axis, chital, sambar......... tough one! May be contact and ask for the latin name - a bit less open to mistake. :0)
Good Luck.

NitroXActually that is true, chital deer are also known as Indian Spotted deer. Can't imagine they would do too well in Lithuania though.

NitroXHow about whitetail? There are now large numbers of whitetail in nearby Finland.

"Spotty deer" seems to be another name for the Sika deer (Cervus nippon).
The picture on the second of your links is of a small roe deer buck.
