Re: Best .270 bullet for less meat damage on roedeeer?
Just- another- norwegian
Thanks for your reply. That is the good stuff. I have never tried the Scirocco. Now I'll wait 'till I go reddeer hunting again.

Tiggertate... I have neither a Velocity problem nor a bullet problem.
I have loaded down and up for whatever purpose I needed a bullet for.
But I'll tell you what... I'd really like if you please put in the facts I am asking for.

Best regards Niels
You will certainly have to wait to try out a GS - site average appears to be 2 years from ordering (and paying) to delivery!

500grainsYou could try out some cast lead bullets at reduced velocity (1500 fps).
Or you could use heavy, controlled expansion bullets at under 2700 fps.

Pete EDakor,
Welcome to the thread!
I am not sure what size Whitetails run in your area but where I stalk a decent adult Roebuck is going to weigh between 30lbs and 40lbs hanging up in the larder. Thats gutted, head and feet off, but skin on. There is a size variation across the UK and Europe, but you will get more Roe dressing out under 30lb than over 40lbs I bet.
I may be wrong, but I suspect that is about half to three quaters the size of a Coues deer?
From what I have read, your Whitetail are typically about the same size of our Fallow, Sika or Red depending on the habitat in each case.
Regards,
Pete

justanothernorwegianI have the GS sitting on my loading bench... They look sexy! Will try the HP and the HV in both 300wsm, and 375wby. I have not been able to get my chronograph set up lately, will find the right velocity before I start messing with expansion tests in wet telephone directories. Fun!

Well I live in the USA and have never shot a Roe Deer but have shot whitetails wich look about the same to me. In a 270 with a 130gr Winchester Silver tip going 2900fps the bullet seems to go in about the size of a dime and comes out about like a Penny nice little round hole not much meat damage. Another good one is the 130gr Partition going around 3000 fps seems to do about the same and a 140gr Barnes X at 2877 fps is again about the same. If you want to insure that a bullet will not fragment and send chuncks of lead through meat if it hits something hard I would use the 130gr or 140gr Barnes X or the New 130gr Barnes TSX in the 2900 to 3000 fps range. Hope this helps.
