SIKA98KA short trip to Hungary
I took a trip to Hungary recently for a little boar shooting with a group from Ireland.
We flew into Budapest and our minibus whisked us to our destination on the Slovak border.
The form was shooting from high seats at night under the moon.Hungary allows the use of lamps so we had rigged up the new generation of Led lamps in one form or another.
We had 3 nights in the high seats,7pm to roughly 5 or 6am.
Boar were in abundance. However we were asked not to shoot sows or young piglets. It did mean we had lots of viewing.I was lucky enough to get a shot on the first evening
That was to be my lot for the weekend.I had some thrilling moments but failed to get another shot off.
On Monday morning before we left we had a parade of the bag
We were each presented with an oakleaf dipped in the blood of the boar.

A happy man having shot his first boar.
We had 6 shot but one failed to make the parade for photogenic reasons.... it had lost its head!
Weather was 25 to 30 Celsius during the day dropping to 7 to 9 C at night so it got chilly especially when the wind picked up.
We used a variety of calibres,6,5x55,308 and 375.
The area holds a good variety of game, nice roe,red deer and a wealth of songbirds.
One of the group had a raccoon climbing up the ladder of his high seat one night.I asked him if he shot it.No he replied,I spat on it,it f**cked off !

BoghossianNice pics, that is a long time to sit in the dark waiting!
How did the pigs react to the lamp?

SIKA98KSure Bog a long time but funnily we all found time passed swiftly, always something moving to keep you interested.Or you could doze a while.
The white light made some jumpy,an amber filter did not seem to worry them overly.

GhubertThanks for posting.
That looks like a very nice rifle rifle in the first pic, what is it if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks Ghubert,I like it also.It is an old Mauser sporter I bought in Denmark 7 years ago.
I think its a Mauser Model B but am not sure. Its in 6,5x55,They were made in that and exported to Scandinavia. If the serial no.is a Mauser one it dates it to 1909.
The orange band is a hairband I blagged off one of the barmaids in our hotel in Hungary to secure the pressure pad on my lamp! Nothing more sinister.

CohannonWell done Angus, it seems to have been a bit more productive than last year's trip. Maybe Zoltan actually decided to feed the feeding stations ....

Sika
great pic's and the orange hair band was a great trophy

perhaps you will divulge your secret method of gaining such a valuable item

Was it covered in the female pheromone to attract the boars?

regards
