I am coming to Germany for a week in mid-Febuary for my 30th Birthday. I want to visit the factory in Isny where my two rifles were made.

I also want to visit Bavaria and some other areas. Reccomendations please?

Anyway, any big rifle stores and hunting shops I should know about?

I asked about Frankfurt because I will be flying into there from Jerez on Ryan air. Then taking a train south and then renting a car.
My Grandparents immigrated after the war to the states. My 100% German mother wants some nutcrackers, and another cuckoo clock.

Looks like Ryan air flys to Salzburg, Austria. That might be a closer ticket than flying to Frankfurt to get to Isny. Damn Ryan air is cheap!

I am also going to spend a few days in Garmisch. I think it's close to Isny as well.

What do you think?

It is not too far from Salzburg to Isny. If you want to pass by Garmish, then maybe the better option is to drive via Innsbruck, and cross over the border west of Innsbruck. The Autobahn between Salzburg and Munich can be VERY congested, and must be avoided at all cost on main travelling days (start and end of vacations, weekends in winter).

Watch it with Ryan Air prices. They are only "that" cheap if you book well in advance.

There are still good gunshops to peruse. Kettner in Innsbruck (and I think Salzburg as well?). Frankonia in Munich, and Waffen Beer in Kempten.

Lovely area, lovely landscape, good skiing, good hiking.

I was looking at it some more, and I think fly from Jerez to Frankfurt direct. Then train to Munich then to Garmisch.

Then rent a car for a few days to explore Bavaria, Garmisch, and Isny. Then train back to Frankfurt for the flight back to Espana.

Should get enough a good look in 7 or 8 days. Can't burn up too much holiday time not hunting. I really want to see that part of the world and do some skiiing.

Just for comparison, check this website for car rental - they are usually pretty good. Although, watch out: sometimes they have a clause that you HAVE to buy a full tank of petrol off the rental company. That is usually semi-OK if you know, and can return the car with an empty tank. It is a rip-off, if you just want to rent a car for the day, and can't use up a whole tank...

P.S. If you are really into skiing, then forget Garmish and go to either Lech or St Anton. Either place will be pretty crowded in February, but Lech and St. Anton are some of the best skiing resorts in all of Austria, and much higher elevation than Garmisch (better chance of snow). With a car, it is not far to St. Anton from Innsbruck, say - maybe 1 hour. Garmish is pretty, but does not offer the most extensive skiing in the world...

I can stay at the US military resort in Garmisch for cheap! That makes all the difference in the world and it's close to the Blaser factory in Isny.

Dont forget that Germany has a beautiful north.And there is Sauer und Sohn too !You can visit them too.Thats realy interesting!And Hamburg...we dont have a Hofbr�uhaus but have the Reeperbahn .and some good customrifle maker.

My first posting to this site!

In response to your query although somewhat belated - I'm an American living in Frankfurt and know the area very well, especially the local gunshops. Frankonia is represented in Darmstadt @ 25 minute drive from downtown FKT and the Kettner store that was in downtown FKT has now located to the former Waffen Zehner gunshop in Schwanheim (FKT suburb) and operates together with Zehner under the Kettner banner. Mr. Zehner is still there and affords invaluable consultation and time to his dedicated customers - including the US military members. I also do business in Wiesbaden with a small gunshop Waffen Kraher (@ 20 minute drive) from FKT. If you would like to exchange particulars and make some time during your stopover in FKT I can arrange for you to vist all of them and get the "inside" track.

Waffen Zehner is a preferred Blaser dealership and he has all the newest & current Blaser dope, poop & stuff. As noted from your other postings; within the EU a Blaser barrel is a registered rifle component and requires licensing - net, not easy unless you've got the right credentials.

I have not visited Isny, although my colleague, shooting and hunting crony, Rob has been there to select a supreme piece of walnut for his R-93. I'll ask him if he would like to correspond with you and perhaps he can afford some insight to make you visit more worthwhile.

If you've got some queries concerning gunshops through Bavaria during your trip I could also give you some tips along the way, as noted on the threads the German Hunting & Fishing Museum in Munich is a "must" if you would like to take the time.

Personally, I'd be happy to debate the 9.3x64 vs. the 9.3x62 with you especially concerning the logistics involved of having such an "oddball" caliber, I have a Mauser 9.3x62 and selected the .375H&H in Blaser to compliment my Winchester Model 70 .375H&H African Express. I'd be happy to relate a funny story off-line about all these caliber choices.
