Trousers
With the roe season just around the corner and temperatures rising I am searching for a pair of trousers that are:-
Nettle proof (really important)
Cool (temperature that is)
Dry quickly (so no cotton)
Silent
Plain green/brown
I have allways used the good old British army lightweights but they aren't nettle proof and it gets too painful crawling through those ditches.
Can anyone help with a suggestion?

I am not sure you will get all those things in a pair of trousers but I like the ex German Army moleskins. They are not like our traditional moleskins, but more like a slightly heavier duty version of our lightweights in Germany Army Field Grey/Green.
Stag Country Wear does a couple of types of new trousers and breeks from the Continent in a similar material. These are aimed at the stalking market but are at very reasonable prices..
He will be at most of the big gamefairs this year starting with the Gamekeepers Fair at Lord Lichfields place in Staffs
Slightly different are Mad Dog's "Growler" waterproofs from the States but also available over here. They are a *very* lightweight single skinned breathable waterproof jacket and trousers which have a "brushed" finnish on the outter surface. The only down side is that they are only available in one of these American real-tree type cammo's which is mostly browns and autumn colours...would be great in dead bracken!

but they do not satisfy all your requests like the third because they are made in cotton. For this reason I use gaiters. They cover more than half tight. However, with them, it is possible to walk in wet green staying dry.

or a multi stratum of undrwears. For this reason my trousers are a little abundants. On 15 of April, when I'll be in Hungary, I'll probably have a BlueNavy light leotard in Polartec.
About nettle (not thorn), silent and color no problem

In fact I'm 1,77 meters tall, but my weight is about 95Kg. Ok, at the end the effect is a prominent belly, slim legs an a pair of Kg of dick
If you were a WOMAN the last particular could be interesting, Man and Gay are not allowed to indagate or touch!!

I`ve just purchased a pair of Greenland trousers made by Fjall Raven.Although they`re poly cotton they`re windproof,showerproof and light.Judging by the density of the weave I doubt nettles will create too much of a problem
I got mine from Jagersport and they seem to have a good selection

I do not know of any regular fabric that will stop nettles, we have a similar problem here in Texas with cactus thorns, which vary from thick sewing needles to so fine you cannot see them with a magnifying glass. You might try these pants from wwwfilson.com . Style 69 Single Tin pants, or Style 67 Double Tin Pants, they also have bibs, better for "crawling" Style27 Double Tin Bibs. They have worked good for me.
One of my Alaskan Guides said these are the only pants he will wear.

I guess the name is Harkila, or H�rkila if you want to be exact. They have very good reputation in Sweden. So has Woodline, though I do not know if these are available in England.
The Swedish company Chevalier on the other hand, which I know you have in England, is not up to the same standard - the zippers will not last long etc.

I was forgotting something of very, very interesting information.
An Italian compay, Salewa, that produce technical clothes for himalayan climbers has produced also a line for the Italian Forestal Guards and for hunters.
The trousers has: saloppette, the low interal part of the pant enter in the boot but is protect by a waterproof external part that work like gaiter, protect on knee with rubber. It is made with silent material, transpirant but warm. They succesfully use the himalayan experience.
150 euro more or less the price.

Guys, what do you do with those leather faced (Swedish style) pants when they need washing?? Or does washing and hunting pants not go together

They are washed religiously............ once a year, whether they need it or not!!

I just put them through a warm wash as required. Allow to drip dry and then dress with some 'Dubbin' to feed the leather. Dubbin being the same sort of grease you would rub into boots/tack to keep them supple and waterproof.

I've gone for the Fjalraven Greenlander which fit well are light, nettleproof but slightly noisier than I wanted. Seeing as my combat jacket also russles it shouldn't be a problem.

PS this am (start of the new roe buck season) after a week of hot sun was bloody freezing - the lined lodens were worn.

There is nothing of fashion in these clothes, they are absolutely technical, I don't know if they produce some classic as knikerbokers.
